I cannot hit a ball without my hips spinning around. I've been battling it for two decades. I hit the ball with very good power but my consistency, especially with mid and long irons, hybrids, is pathetic! My misses are dead pulls or low, shank-like pushes. For whatever reason this spinning out seems not to affect my driving the ball at all. I've tried lots of things but it seems my natural move is that hard left hip spin that drags my left foot around too. anyone else got this spinning disease and found some sort of cure or even bandage?
thanks - dayll

I have this Spinning Disease too I am slowing my swing speed down at the moment like mad, just focusing on my hips and impact position. This shortens my ball flight but the irons are a lot more accurate now and the hips are not swinging around so fast anymore.

A good drill is the "Feet together Drill". Stand with your feets together and make a full swing. If your hips turn you will immediately feel it.

Yes I've go it too. Like you said its from trying to hit it too hard, but the spinning out is a cause of trying to get power from your body. Remember to get your arms and shoulders in sync with your hips and play for control. It happens to me when I hit it slightly fat and naturally i try and hit it harder the next shot hence the spin out. One more drill is to hit balls keeping both your feet flat on the ground.

Ditto this drill. It works really well for a lot of things, but particularly well for sliding and spinning.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

    • 12 July 25 - Got invited to a Sat morning round with some friends.  Was a decent round - sort of a pre-tournament round for the 1st of Aug.  Best play of the day - lost ball off the tee on 7.  Took the drop, hit 3rd onto the green, missed the par putt by 3 inches short - middle of cup.  Was a good bogie recovery.  Learned a valuable lesson - the wedge is your friend, the collars on the greens are just long enough that they kill the putter (unless you hammer it).  Back to more of those nice chip and roll drills. &nbsp
    • Day 357: played 27 holes. +6 total - pretty pleased. Only negative was missing the hole 3 times from within 4 feet…
    • Day 1: 7/12/25 exactly 60 minutes of chipping practice. Unlikely to be able to practice very much but sure had a blast today!
    • Didn't score better, but made better swings on the course today. I found a bit of success on range pre-round, just hitting like what felt like 60-70% shots. It was more right elbow and right wrist angles in the downswing. Driver took a bit to work out the giant toe push draws I was hitting.
    • Played in the first round of Shawnee Hills  course tournament. went 42+46. Just lost energy on the back nine.  Lots of pars and way too many big scores. Course has a lot of areas to lose a golf ball. This is the adjusted score.  I had to return to the tee twice. The first the guy I played with didn’t tell me my ball bounced into the trees behind the green. 😡 the 2nd one I hit a decent draw over the corner of a slight dog leg left. I didn’t know 15-20 yards from the fairways was nasty weeds. I also 4 putted and 3 putted a few times. I flubbed like two chips. Too long of backswing.  I was happy with my ball striking. Probably B-. Found a bit of something on the range before the round. I’m starting to actually feel my right arm position better with what I am working on. I striped some irons today.
