I know this is a topic arises quite often, but most focus on various apps, and this is a bit different.

I'm always looking for ways to track more stats in the most efficient manner possible.  I've wanted to find a better way to track approach shots and putts.  I'm not really satisfied with putts per hole and putts per GIR as representative of putting skills.  Here is what I've come up with.

A scorecard can have anywhere from 4-8 lines, but the courses I usually play have 6.

1 - Score

2 - Fairway

3 - Approach Distance

4 - S/C/P (Sand, chip or pitch)

5 - First Putt Distance

6 - Second putt distance.

I check my gps for all my approach shots, and can estimate the short shots that i might not.  I use aim point so I always determine the distance of a putt anyway.  Walking to the next hole I remember all of those numbers so it really only requires a few extra pencil strokes between holes.  Its a bit harder when i'm in a cart, but I walk 75% of the time, so its usually done by the time i get to the next tee.

From that scorecard, I can get all the stuff the avg smartphone app can give you (FIR, GIR, total putts, up/downs, etc), plus the following: Putts (by distances 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, etc.) % made, % 1putts, %2putts, %3putts, avg left to the hole.  Approach shots (by distances 0-10yds, 10-20, 20-30, through 220 or so), "closeness" to the hole, avg putts.

The problem I've come across is that the approach line doesn't capture missed shots, i.e, 85 yard approach comes up short and I chip on, I'm recording the chip.  That means my avg 85 yard "closeness" isn't really accurate.  I will fix that by putting a slash through the box when that happens and put both distances.  So I'll add to the spreadsheet "approach hit target %" which might be the most useful approach stat anyway.

I've tracked 5 rounds so far and I am generally satisfied with my short putting (95% 0-3, 68% 4-6), and i'm generally leaving really short 2nd putts when I miss from anywhere (less than 2 feet from inside 15, about 3ft from 15-25).  I need to get more long putts to fall in the cup though, I'm 2/39 outside 9 feet.

Interested to know whether anyone else tracks stats like this (beyond the standard gps app stuff) and if anyone has additional suggestions.
