Played yesterday and frankly my mid irons, my 5&7 woods and my driver were decent.  Putting not bad either, one 3 putt in 9 holes.  Couple of one putts too for pars.  BUT my wedge play sucked the big one.  I've got it in my head to hit a mid flighted wedge from 50-80 yds with back spin.  I can't do it.  Tried it with my sw and my lw.  I mean I hit my lw(old Carbite) about 60yds when I hit it good.  My sw about 20-25 yds further from a good lie.

What I ended up doing is skulling the ball.  Sometimes it would land on the green but towards the back and most times it would end up in front of the green.  Point being is that some were worm burners, some were 5 footers or so but most were like rockets.  So my question is how do you hit a mid flighted wedge with back spin like you see the pro's do.  I've even practiced it at the range and the most I do is the above.  Maybe the flight should be like I am hitting them and I am not hitting down enough for the back spin thing.

I also noticed that when trying to hit it lower with back spin I need to hook my right finger more down the shaft.  To hit my wedges higher I use a bit stronger grip with my right hand, neutral with left and my pointer finger more close to my hand in general, you know not as far extended down the shaft in a hook pattern.  So what's the key to this shot?  thanks

Thanks for the links.  A bit different than what I what I looking for though.  I want to be 20-70yds out or so and hit a med height shot with back spin to make the ball check up.  Chipping around the green I am actually not to bad at.  Depending on the lie, distance, green layout I'll vary the use of my clubs.  Use basically the same stroke just some different lofted irons.  thanks

I think the ball I use is good I'm just looking for advice on technique more than anything.  thanks

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
