I started off golfing last summer. Went to the driving range 3 times a week and went on the course 1. Finished in about october. started up again in early march and practiced alot from there. Ive been shooting 49-52 from there with a bad short game. Then i would say may everything went down hill. Im not getting any better, im actually getting worse. (except my short game) Ive been shooting mid 60s. That is terrible. Ive had a club pro give me tips and tinker with my swing but its not helping at all. (I dont know if any of you know Donnie Darr, ohio states golf coach, but his dad who is scratch worked with me a little bit on the range) but im still getting worse. I used to be able to make solid contact with the ball and it would go straight including my driver. Now its i cant my irons or hybrids in the air and when it does it goes immediatley right and my driver goes a decent distance.... into the next fairway! I just am really confused and frustrated right now. I have no idea what to do. I go to the range with a mindset " im about to hit the ball good". I dont hit the ball good. Any advice?

You should post a swing video.  Could be a ton of things.  If you can't post a video tell us:

  • On what line is the ball starting (right, left, straight)
  • Where on the club face is the ball making contact?  If you don't know put a piece of masking tape on the face of your club and hit some balls.  It will tell you

You could be cutting across the ball really hard, you could be shanking it, you could be doing any number of things.

Better than nothing.  Any clue where you are making contact on the face of the club?

I would imagine you do.  LOL.

Wondering if you are shooting them off the hosel or almost missing the ball and sending it off the edge of the toe.

I went through this same thing as a beginner. Hang in there, it will get better.

You most definalty sounds like your LEFT wrist is cupped. That causes an over the top, outside to in swing.

Try to focus on your left wrist, make sure it's flat, all the way to the top. Stop your swing at the top, and look at it.

I bet your swing is too long also. Shorten your backswing, don't even go to parallel, try a 3/4 swing at the top. And keep your right elbow tight against your body.

And on your take away. Keep the club face square. It should be pointing at the ground the first part of the take away. Don't rotate your wrists on the take away, the clubface should not be pointing up to the sky on the first part of the take away.

Another thing on the range. Try to hit 1/2 shots to get rythem going. Like try to hit your 7 iron around 100 yards. Like a punch shot, that's low. Try this and report back.

LOL sorry I have to laugh. Don't worry, you'll figure it out.

You're coming out of it. You need to STAY DOWN through impact. Mantain your spin angle. Don't lift up your head, and don't DIP your head on the backswing.

And try to bring the club back around your body more. You have a steep swing right now. On the takeaway, pull it around inside more, instead of over your head.

And shorten the swing. Take 3/4 swings.
