G'day guys,
As you'll see in the 'introduce yourself' section im new, and new to golf also.

So im looking at purchasing a new putter
Been looking at the odyssey white hot XG probably #5.
What do the numbers mean first of all?

And also do you think this is a good putter?
I dont know how to judge if a putter is good or not.
I like a soft feel also, which is why i think this putter would be good for me, and ive heard quite a lot of good stuff about them.
I can get it for AUD$140 instead of about $200 retail, so i thought it was a good deal.
Also, i am 6'1 so i was wondering what size you thought would be best? or is it just personal preference?

What do you think?

Thankyou.

well the number on the putter is just which model it is. and picking a putter much like all of the clubs you or someone else will buy is based on personal preferance. For putters there are multiple selections of styles such as center shaft, heel shaft, plubers neck. as to what i think is a resonable putter is the Odessy White Hot 2-ball putter it is a great putter. the putter you mentioned is a very good selection.
Happy Hunting!

Putting is so personal that choosing a putter style (mallet or blade) is up to the individual. More important than the style is the fit. Weight, length, and lie are the most important factors for me. I like a shorter putter so that my arms can hang and I can swing, instead of stab. I also don't like a light putter.

I'm sure I just confused you. Make sure you get out and try different putters... especially different lengths.

Size is based on how much you crouch and bend over the ball. I'm 6'2" and had been using a 35 but I seem to be over the ball more and have switched to 33.

the only way to pick the right style of putter is to hit puts. If you have a "gate" stroke a heel shafted putter is better if straight through the a center shafted and so on. Try a bunch and don't worry if you don't like it later. You will want to buy a new one shortly any way.

Anyway check out the posts on Scotty Cameron, it's a sickness and it's contagious, get the bug

odyssey white hot xg series. I use the number nine and love it. Its phil's putter. Its only 119usd also. Its a small mallet. Just give any odyssey a whack and youll like it. I spent an hour hitting all the putters in the series and ended up liking the nine the most.

G'day guys,

Like everyone said, it's better if you actually go out to a store and try them. Find which one suits you the best in regards to feel, stroke type, stance, etc. But if you're confused which one to try, you should go to odyssey's website and check on the putter fitting option. From there you'll know which putters you would demo first. Good luck and happy hunting!

I just recently purchased the odyssey white hot marxman xg and am a huge fan. It has a great feel and good weight to keep the putter on a smooth stroke, plus it comes with a poker chip ball marker

However, the best bet is always to go and try them out yourself.

119usd = $119 (U.S. Dollars = usd)

I've been using the Odyssey White steel 2 ball putter for 5 months and love it. I've dropped 10 puts a round since. With my handy cap, thats a huge help.

    • So you're basically saying you get three mulligans to use on every hole, and you can use them on any shot until you're out of mulligans? Do I have that right?
    • No, @StuM, it's too early for that. Everyone, please DM @StuM with your GHIN #. If you do not have a GHIN #, message Stu (and include me) to explain. Thank you. We'll lock handicaps (so @StuM can create some charts for the playing handicaps) on… the end of the day May 28. That'll give @StuM the 29th and 30th to look them up and plug them into a spreadsheet.
    • Day 56. Played 9. Best score I’ve ever had made possible by good driving. 14 shots better than Monday haha. Did a very quick stack session after the round.
    • This  is  certainly  one reason golf ratings are  plummeting Golf’s moment of truth is here, and the sport is badly flailing Nonexistent negotiations and missed opportunities for reconciliation between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf have the sport stuck in place. "Golf’s moment of truth is here, and the sport is badly flailing. Half the sport’s best or most notable players play on one tour, half on the other. They all only come together at the four majors — the next one, the PGA Championship, tees off next week — and then spiral off into their own tournaments, cashing massive checks in front of rapidly dwindling audiences."   Here  is another reason. Xander Schauffele hit an unplayable shot  on his  last  hole but  instead  of taking a  penalty  he and the  idiot  official decided some  cable was  in the way(it wasnt) and  he  got to get a free  placement  of  his  ball with a  clear shot to the green. Soft players and enabling  officials are  helping  tank ratings. If  i were the  official it  would  be  take a penalty  or  hit it where  it  lies.
    • I was trying to keep it simple for him. 😉
