I've been Playing Golf for: 13 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 3.6 Handicap

My typical ball flight is: Right to Left

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Duck Hooks off Tee

I'm well aware I take it heavily inside and correct at the top, working on that slowly but any other tips would be appreciated.

Having a front-on view may help TST folks offer some more advice.

That said, even from this view I can see a few things that you might work on (in addition to what you've already noted):

1. You have a very strong grip--esp in the right hand. Experiment with feeling your right hand more on top of the club. Getting too far underneath is likely one of the reasons that you battle the duck hooks.

2. You lose your posture into impact. Take note from your video how far your hips thrust toward the ball. There are a ton of good posts on this site about that--search out some drills that will help you. Find Iacas' post called something like "Biggest Secret: Slide Your Hips".

3. Practice these and other swing changes with 3/4 swings. In fact, given the length of your natural swing, something that feels like a 3/4 swing to you might be perfectly adequate and would make you much more consistent without a significant loss of distance.

You look like quite an athletic guy (which helps!), and a 3 handicap is nothing to sniff at. These changes will take time but stick with it!

I searched and could not find the link, I think that would help very much as I know my hips is something I struggle with a lot. Thank you for the advice I truly appreciate it. The head pro I work under is so busy that he can't help me unfortunately so I love the advice.

1st camera view sucks had it too low my apologies. A little off balance but had great ball flight, slightly uphill lie that I always seem to get off balance on a little. Second view is much better. Working on not bring so far back inside out I think i've improved that a little bit. Here's my swing that I posted previously. Tips, suggestions, thanks everyone.

i've noticed that with working on bringing in back more straight, I haven't hit a duck hook off the tee in a few rounds, i've pulled it but no duck hook.

I really like your leg drive on your downswing.  It really facilitates getting your hip to slide forward in front of the ball before contact and pulls your upper body through the shot.  IMO, 2 things I think you can improve on: (1) I think you are overswinging on your backswing.  Your right elbow comes way off of your side.  If you swing back only as far as you can while keeping your right elbow down and in, I think you'll cure the slight change of swing plane at the top, and increase power and consistency.  Arm swing independent of upper body rotation isn't very powerful and adds potentially unlimited, unecessary variables.  (2) You are swaying back a bit on your backswing.  Since you have a huge leg drive and hip slide, you still get your hips in front of the ball before contact.  But, this linear sway impairs your angular (rotational) momentum, which is much more powerful than linear momentum.  Instead of swaying back to your right foot, keep your weight neutral, or on your left foot, and simply rotate your hips and shoulders around your spine.  That should improve power and consistency as well.  My only other comment is that your right hand grip looks like your hand is almost underneath the club.  I don't know if this is impairing your swing, or even helping it, but, it does look a bit awkward to me.

Some good tips I will give them a try on the range, The right hand I have a pretty strong grip just looks strange in the picture, maybe I need to pay some more attention to it. Thanks for the advice.

Did you duck hook that shot in the first video? Looked like you got the club back to square/open at impact. But it took a funky loop/plane at some point.

I brought it back incredibly funny but I squared it for my usual gentle draw. Same hit in all 3 shots basically just working on getting rid of the looping at the top to get a more stable swing with better balance and control.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done!     • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
