I know as a beginner the 4 15 min lessons would have been killer. Heck what I really needed was 10 min lessons. 5 mins to point out one thing I was doing wrong and a check back in 10 mins to see if I was still working on the right thing.

It is easy to say come back when you have the motion right. The tricky part is that without feedback, you may not be working on the right thing properly. It is way too easy to revert to your old swing.

So instead of paying for an hour lesson once a week, they can have 4 15-min lessons or 3 20-min lessons a week just to make sure they don't go off the rails.

From what I'm seeing, shorter lessons but more often is more beneficial than the 30 mins/hour lesson once a week/two weeks approach. Unfortunately, this approach is difficult to change as the majority of students can't get to the range 3-4 times a week. In fact, most are delighted if they have time to attend their weekly lesson!

+1 for videoing your swing. Did you consider online lessons? I can recommend http://evolvr.thegolfevolution.com good value - check it out.

Is using the iPhone and/or iPad good enough to video your swing? I have appleTV as well so I can look at the tv and see my motions but would I need a better camera to sign up with evolvr? Sorry if this has been answered before. Thanks.

Any camera will work but better cameras simply make some things more useful. But those subtle moves captured by higher-speed cameras tend to apply more to lower handicappers. Higher handicappers tend to make "larger" and less subtle moves.

From about October through February, I was sending in videos to Evolvr every 2 weeks or so.  That gave me 2-4 range sessions to work on it.  I slowed the pace when I started to struggle implementing things because I wanted to "get it" before moving on.  But every few 2 weeks was a good pace for me.  I would think that your pace should be dictated by how often you practice.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
