Why would a private club not have tee times this Sunday?

Hoping some of you who are members of private clubs can shed some light on this. Not really a big deal, but just curious really. I'm playing this Sunday at my brother-in-law's club, he said they announced that this Sunday will be walk up tee times only. Show up, check in with the starter and you will be assigned a tee time. He (my brother-in-law) wasn't sure why they are doing this as this is his first year as a member.

What's the deal?

lots of clubs do it and its a great idea. First, it enable you to meet more people. It also maximizes the number of people playing since they won't be any 2somes or 3somes. But more importantly, it lets the starter create groups that will speed up play a bit.

Makes sense. Thanks. Being Father's Day and all they probably expect a busy day, so it's probably a good idea to create as many foursomes as possible.

He also said that they won't give you a tee time until your entire foursome is there ready to go. So if you have 4 guys and are ready to play, they can probably get you right out there without much waiting.

Play really does seem to slow down on Father's Day. I know last year I was headed for the dreaded 5 hour plus round until one of the other guys in the foursome and I left the other 2 guys.

6:45 right before a big group, I just hope they start us off on 1 instead of 10, playing the front second would take forever.

We always send 18 holers off number one and the early 9 holers get sent off the back. (usually about five groups of nine holers on the weekend).

my private club never has tee times. You basically show up, get in line if a lot of others are there, and go off. I like it because I can just show up whenever I want to...
