If you haven't played Washington National, I would highly reccomend it. It is worth every penny. It's the home course for the University of Washington golf team. http://www.washingtonnationalgolfclub.com/

My foursome also has a tee time to play at Chambers Bay. It opens on June 23rd. It is a walking only course. You can request a caddie to carry your bag. I'm really excited about this one. http://www.chambersbaygolf.com

I'm not a fan of Washington National, but then again I'm a WSU Cougar grad. All that purple and gold on the carts and the pin flags really messed up my game. LOL!

A couple buddies are playing Chambers Bay that opening weekend. They're trying to get me to go, but just can't justify the $200 with a caddy. It looks incredible, so I'm hoping to play it someday. I've got friends that live in Pierce County and it looks like it's $85 during the week with a Pierce County resident, so I need to try and hook that up one of these days.

I played Suncadia for the first time on Saturday. Beautiful course!!! We got twilight rate teeing off at 3:00 and it was $60 with a cart and they gave you a large bag of range balls. Best $60 golfing experience I've had!! Well worth it.

I've got a tee time at Chambers Bay on July 6. I can't wait.

I haven't played Washington National, but I understand it's very nice.

I've played Suncadia a couple times - fantastic course.

We should make a PNW Sandtrap golf outing happen this summer. :)

I feel you there! I'm a USC Trojan grad so all that purple was no good. I did request the USC cart when I made my tee time so that was cool.

I'm down!

what are some other good courses in WA? I haven't lived here that long. I've played both courses at hawks prairie which I also liked. I think I'm going to get the oki card.

WOW! Those two beautiful courses...I'm soooooo jealous. No new courses around my area of the Northeast, except for privates, which I'll never get to play :(.

Maplewood is a decent little track that's down in your direction. Jeff Smith from this forum and I have played it together. He's in Olympia. I haven't played it, but West Seattle GC is supposed to be pretty great. It was designed by H. Chandler Egan, winner of back to back US Amateur titles in 1904 and 1905.

If you get the Oki card, you'll definitely enjoy Newcastle and Indian Summer. I've played both and they are exceptional. I've played Echo Falls as well and it's pretty nice. Not really walkable and it's got some goofy holes with power lines running across the fairways that have been known to ruin a shot or two, but it's not a bad course overall.

As for other reasonably priced public courses: West Seattle was mentioned and is probably the best of the 3 muni courses (Jackson Park and Jefferson Park being the other 2) Maplewood and Elk Run are decent down in the Maple Valley area with Druids Glen and Washington National being the "premium" courses in that region; I prefer Druids Glen, but that's just personal preference. Willows Run in Bellevue has two 18 hole courses and is highly played and some might say highly overrated but probably worth a spin. Heading North, you've got Harbour Point, Kayak Point, and Battle Creek. Kayak Point is a classic Northest track basically cut out of a forest and is a fun challenge. It's best played late in the summer since it doesn't drain well, but is worth a drive North to play (near Tulalip casino so you can get a little gambling in after your round as well) I'm sure that's just scratching the surface, but there are definitely some great options within an hours drive from Seattle or even some nice courses over on the Penninsula (the courses at Gold Mountain and McCormick Woods come to mind) so just start trying 'em out. Now's the time to do it because you've got about 3 months left of decent weather before it's time to pull out the rain gear!!!

Quick question for Washington State golfers:

Heading down to see the pre-season game versus the Broncos from Vancouver, BC.

My buddy and I are thinking of catching 18 holes somewhere on the way down... we are both weekend warriors / hacks... any suggestions for relatively easy playing public or muni courses worth stopping in to play?

Thanks in advance!

I can't tell you if it would be worth it for you stopping in to play but the 18 hole Grandview Golf Course in Custer, Wa is just off the freeway not too far from the border and is certainly "relatively" easy to play. Probably be boring for someone whose handicap wasn't in the neighborhood of yours and mine...

Thanks Zippo! Exactly the type of recommendation I'm looking for. Makes it great value compared to what we have to fork out North of the border.
