The guys I play with are fun and up for a challenge, so we always play skins and greenies (only paid out for birdies). So, one of our foursome decides to add "barkies". He said he read about it in Daly's book. If a guy hits a tree and still makes par, he gets a dollar from the rest of the threesome. So far, it hasn't happened, but it is funny. Have any of you invented a fun bet like this?

The group I started playing with just over a year ago have bets for a lot of stuff. Besides the normal skins, greenies and sandies here some others. We play teams as well as singles with marks paying $.50 for teams and $.25 singles Polie= a putt made for par (or better) from outside the length of the flag stick, pays 1 mark Forte= a putt for birdie from outside the length of the flag stick not lagged inside the length of the stick, you pay everyone $1 Mickelson= 4-putt, pay everyone $1 Rocco= 10 or more strokes on a hole, pay everyone $1 Word= swing and miss the ball (ie, trying to hit from a bush), pay everyone $1 Kent= birdie putt from inside the length of the flag stick and you leave it short, pay everyone $1 Birdie #18= everyone pays you $5 Hoot= putt in from off the green for par or better, pays 1 mark Double hoot= chip in from off the green for par or better, pays 1 mark Coot= par with a penalty, pays 1 mark Skins= 1 mark Birdies= 2 marks Greenies= 1 mark Sandies= 1 mark I think that's it :-D

We play skins, sandies, and greenies. We also play 6 hole robins, and we have a bet for whoever hits the most fairways, greens, and has the fewest putts. Throw in we also have individual bets with each other and it takes 15 minutes to figure out payouts at the end of our rounds. It takes 2 scorecards to keep it all, good thing the guy who keeps it is a CPA.

Two standard bets for our games....if you make 13 pars or better and no double bogeys, player collects $20 from everyone.....an eagle is also $20 from everyone

From there it is standard $1 pops for birdies and kps

A group of us play the "feather" every now and then. Basically whoever three putts holds the feather until someone else three putts. If your holding it after the 18th you have to buy the first round.

I dont really care for bets that involve using the flagstick for a measuring device. It just seems to slow up play too much. Anyrhing that can be carded wirhout having to step off or measure something is just good fun.

I don't slow up play, it's pretty easy to tell if you inside or outside the length, so most aren't acutally measured, unless it's close, and then it takes just a second. I think it's made me a better lag putter. If I've got a 30 foot birdie putt I need to make sure I get it in that circle or I pay. At first it was too much to keep up with, but once you get used to it, it's really pretty easy.

I forgot to add: low score for each side=2 marks, and low total=2 marks

I am about 18-20 strokes better than anyone I play with so there are NEVER any games. I've tried to play skins and give a stroke a hole but they just want to play and focus on not sucking. I think it would help them and make it more fun but they disagree. The only game that ever pops up is team total stroke where I play with the worst and the two middle guys pair up. This is just added up at the end though so there is no on course excitement plus no one ever pays because by the time we are done someone is PO'd.

Guess I need to find a new game :(

I like these bets for our foursome, very little money will change hands. Lol

Basically if you win a skin or whatever bet (sandie, greenie, etc.) you get a mark on the scorecard on that hole so you get paid. Each mark is worth a set amount of money....

we keep it pretty simple. $5 for every birdy $10 per eagle nothing for par. When youre trying to birdy every hole your score looks pretty good at the end.

We play for fifths. Say you're on the green 30' from the hole. Anybody in the group can offer a fifth of something if you sink it. "I'll give you a fifth of Glenmorangie if you make that".

I've seen some close calls but so far nobody has had to pay up.

Has anyone ever bet their own clubs/had to pay up?

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
