Recently had a new set of clubs made for me after being fitted. I am very happy with them, but am 1 club short. I posted my distances in the how far do you hit your clubs thread. Here's what I posted:

Driver: 270

3 wood: 240

5 wood: 210

5 iron: 180

6 iron: 170

7 iron: 160

8 iron: 150

9 iron: 140

PW: 130

AW : 120

SW 110

LW: 100

Putter: Never the right distance.

Haven't carried an 3 or 4 iron in years, never really did hit them well, so I loaded up on wedges instead, which had helped my game a lot. I was also carrying a 4H for a while, but never really had the chance to get used to it. I want a club to bridge the gap between my 5 wood and my 5 iron. I have been bouncing around the idea of getting either a 7 wood or a 4H again.

So what's people's opinions here, which should I get. I know not many people my age carry a 7 wood, but if it works, I don't really care. Either one I would be ordering fitted, so they would both be nice. Just not sure which way to go right now.

I do hit my woods better than my irons right now, but I also taking lessons, and we are working on my iron play, and getting a feel for my wedges right now. Is a 7 wood easier to hit than a 4H?

I thought the 7 wood was going to be the answer to my gap too but I actually hit my 7 wood just as far as my 5 wood?  I ended up getting a 4 hybrid and now everything fits the correct way from a yardage stand point.  I guess you will have to try both to see what is best for you but that was my experiment with a 7 wood.

In my bag:
MP 57's 4-PW KBS Stiff
Ping G 20 10.5* Stiff
Taylormade V Steel 3 and 5 wood

Bridgestone J33 R Hybrid 21* NV Shaft
Mizuno MP Quad Cut 52* and 56* Spinner Shafts

Scotty Cameron Newport Two TeI3

For about three years I carried a 15* 3W with a mid-kick shaft, along with either a 5W or a TM Raylor trouble club. Started having elevation problems the 3W, and seemed to be either long or short with the Raylor.

After recent demo days and fittings, I ended up with a 17* high-launch 3W (hey, it's a 4W), a 21* 7W and a 22* 4H.

The 7W goes about 15 yards farther than the 4H, and the two make a good team. For some reason, the 7W is more forgiving from iffy lies than either the 4W or the 4H.

And, the 4H goes about 10 yards farther than my 4i, and is more reliable.

As a history note, some of the younger tour pros from circa 2000 carried a 4W and a 7W and dropped the 2i. This was in pre-hybrid days.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I just bought a 19 degree Adam's V-Tech 3 to go with my 22 degree V-Tech. The 19 replaced my 21 degree 7 wood. They go about the same distance, and both are pretty user friendly. I like my 7 wood but I think I hit more solid shots with the Adams hybrid. I'lm sure I'll put the 7 wood in the bag if I have a bad run with the hybrid. Gotta hit both and see what works for you.

Did not know that. I only started playing golf in 2004. Won't feel as off if that's the case.

I have a 21 Hybrid and a 24 Wood and hit them both almost the same distance...right at 175 yds.

Of the two, for me,  the hybrid is easier to hit consistently on target.

I have the same thing going on....4H or 7W? I find the 7W easier to hit and fits my 3W, 5W set. I think the consistency comes from the fact that the hybrid requires a slightly different swing as the shaft is shorter, the swing weight is different and it sets up differently. In other words you have your fairway wood swing, your iron swing and then when you add a hybrid you have that swing as well. I have opted to Keep It Simple and go with the versatile 7W which is too bad as this nice looking Adams Hybrid A12 OS sits in my locker waiting its turn.

I went ahead and ordered a 7W last night. Borrowed a 4H from a friend and took it to the range. It was nice, but I like my woods better. I am getting a 7W that matches my 3W & 5W. I may get a 4H sometime soon to and see if I can get used to it.

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week.
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing.
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process.
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
