I just got back into golf after a few years off.  I have a odyssey putter #1 white hot I think its from about 2003. I haven't used it a ton but I'm just wondering how long they are good for or if getting fitted for a new putter is something worth the $.  I bought all new clubs except my vokey wedges which I love but when I was last into golf I never even heard of getting fitted for a putter.  A little help would be nice thanks.

Unless it got rusty, or a pre-schooler used it to reshape the driveway, it should be good for a long time.

From 2006 until this past Christmas, I played with a Ping Pal made about 1973 (fitted and regripped, of course). The Pal worked fine. (Pal got replaced by a putter + fitting I won in a holiday raffle).

I suggest you play with the Odyssey for a few weeks and see how it works. Then, get a fitting if you have patterns of misses. If it doesn't work at all, sell it and use the money toward a new putter (and get fitted for it).

I'm kinda just posting this so I can follow this thread....but what is the point of getting a putter fitted?  Just curious, I've never heard of someone doing this.

Do a search on putter fittings here, you will find some great posts from Erik (Iacas) on Edel putters, their fitting process and the reasons behind them.

ya find my thread a while ago. I dont even remember if it was about putting but I was thinking of upgrading to a scotty when somebody told me about putter fittings and Edel does a really good fitting process. dont quote me but something about they have you line up a put 20 feet away with a laser and a mirror and then they remove the ball to show your line was actually 1 foot to the right or left and they can change the putter head so you think your going straight but its actually angled a degree or 2 to the right or left depending on where your miss was. It makes up for the "I seem to always miss puts to the left" scenario.
