Try the Titleist Vokey Spin milled wedges. After getting a 56 degree aboout 6 years ago, I can honestly say I will not be using anything else.  I must say though, those advertisement posters in my club house for cleveland wedges do look pretty sexy.

What exactly is the purpose of having a bunch of wedges? I only have one 56 degree wedge. Is there an advantage to having a 52,54,or 60 degree wedge? Im just wondering for personal education on golf.

They just continue your irons and give you more yardage options.

These numbers are purely theoretical, but they help illustrate.

Your 4 iron may be a 170 yard club.  full swing
Your 9 iron may be a 110 yard club full swing

then your wedges start.

46 degree Pitching wedge  100 yards full swing

50 degree Gap wedge 90 yards full swing

52 degree Approach wedge 80 yards full swing
56 degree Sand wedge 70 yards full swing
60 degree Lob wedge 60 yards full swing

The beauty of a high loft wedge, like a lob wedge, is when you are within a few yards of the green, but there's a bunker (say, a sand trap) between you and the green and you have to get up and over and right back down.

I really appreciate your post but I got to tell you...after hitting some 'high end' wedges...Titleist vokeys and clevelands...I'm pretty set on just spending the money.

Check out vintage wedges on ebay. A lot of hardcore amateurs (and probably a few poser wannabes) got rid of their "non-conforming" wedges when the USGA and R&A; instituted the new groove rules (Condition of Competition  - cc). Check out "vintage" Vokeys, Callaway (a couple very underrated lines), Cleveland 588s, and just look for something rated to have a decent face condition (the important part - they're wedges so bag chatter a little wear on the sweet spot provides instant creditbility among your peers).

I completely understand. I passed on them myslf to buy the Cleveland 588 Forged.
You can buy the good stuff, or wish you had.

I have some Vokeys and Mizuno wedges. They're 54s and 60s with maybe one 56 in there. I can't help you out on a 52 or a 50, though. PM me if you're interested. I could probably do $50 to $75 shipped for two of them. They're used but still in decent shape.

Broke Loser, I have Vokey sm4s 52, 56, 60 The 56 has the most wear and the 52 is the cleanest. All are used and have been played for about 6 months but still have plenty of life. I went to a different loft gapping. I'll take 125.00 for the set shipped.

Thanks Dale...that's seems like a great deal but I'm trying to stay committed to the lofts I think I want to play; 50, 54, 58.

I'm currently playing Callaway X-Tour's in 52 and 58
