So ive been practicing alot lately hitting all my clubs pretty solidly at the range, working on a few things that ive learnt from this forum. Ive never been fantastic with the driver i usually just try and hit the fairway. But recently it seems like i have zero control with it. I was mucking around today with ball position and i was hitting cut after cut so i experimented and put the ball in the middle of my stance like an iron and i hit it dead straight. I know this is wrong but its the only way i can hit it straight at the moment.

I was trying to figure out why this was the case, the only thing i can come up with is that somehow the low point in my swing is back in the middle of my stance instead of left heel. Correct?

Yes, in general, ball being further back will shift your baseline more to the right (hitting out) therefore you will tend to see the amount you are cutting the ball decrease, without any other variables changing.

I've had that problem before as well......you need to retrain your swing to include a forward hip movement that begins at the top of your backswing......this will transfer your weight to your front foot and allow the bottom of your swing to move forward towards the ball. I learned this with my lessons last year from Golftec.....since then, my drives are now very straight and longer.

Fixed it haha. Ironed out a few flaws at the range tonight and started hitting solid balls again. I think it was just one of those things that happens when im always on the net looking for anything to help my game and i just had a few two many swing thoughts going with the driver. Just went back to a few basics and trusted my swing. Its gotten me this far

Just not as consistent as id like but i do have high standards so im probably overreacting. Accuracy wise im pretty solid. My misses usually come off the bottom of the club face and low but generally go straight so i get away with them. And ive put a tonne of practice into my short game so if i hit a bad drive im still confident i can make par.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
