So I was at Dick's Sporting Goods trying out some new irons. When the sales associate setup the computer for the "driving range" he took a couple of shots to make sure it was up and running. I noticed that he bent WAY over at his waist to hit the ball as opposed to myself as I stand fairly straight up.

Are these just different techniques? Or is one way better than the other?

By the way he claimed that he usually shot in the 70's...

Thoughts?

If your arms hang straight down or a few degrees forward you will have recommended bend at setup.

Simply take a look at photos of Tour players at address and get a feel for their posture compared to yours.     I'd rather take my inspiration from players who make an exceptional living playing golf at the highest levels rather than a sales guy at Dick's working for slightly more than minimum wage.

Depends, pro's vary, if you look at Fred Couples, he has very little knee bend and little bend at the waist.

Even though our games more resembles the guy at Dick's.

Still, a valid point as you will see many examples of address positions that work.
