I'm thinking of buying the TaylorMade RBZ 3W. Would appreciate your experience with this club, is the hype real or just marketing BS?

Sorry have no experience with the 3 wood but have hit the 2 hybrid and its f ing amazing. One of my buddys has it they only make it in a tour model I think its a 17 degree he says he hits it as far as his old 3 wood and its way easier to hit off the deck and out of the rough I think he hits it like 240-250 but he destroys the ball.

The ball flies off the face. I use it off the tee in place of a driver. Most people I play with I am no more than 10 yards behind them on tee shots with it. I really like the white head and the rocketballz name. Might be because I'm younger and enjoy flashy things? I know I was sucked into the marketing gimmicks, but it really does go farther than the other 3woods I tried out.

It has a big face and is basically a smaller, shorter driver. I had one but had a stiff shaft and had already dented the face of one but it's as good as advertised. The youtube video of Dustin Johnson hitting one 330.. I didn't believe it till I myself replicated it.

300+ with a 3wood is crazy long. I have a buddy with the RBZ driver and I'm with him after most every tee box. He told me one reason the 3wood is so long is that they don't have a set limit to how hot the face is, unlike drivers. Idk hbow true it is but it seemed to make a little sense?

Ya I didn't believe till I actually watched my ball go that far.. I am a pretty long hitter but even that seemed insane. Too bad Burnett couldn't pitch like he is this year with the yanks.

I had one go about 325, I must have caught the downhill slope just perfect I guess, because I don't believe I really smashed it that hard. Also, I have no idea how my avatar got to that lol. One day it was blank an.d the next it's been changed.

I have the 3W RBZ Tour 14.5*.  I like it.  It has a larger head (172cc) when compared to the old Titleist 980F I was carrying.  The 980F was 138cc with 13* of loft.  So the head of the RBZ 3W is a little larger, and thus makes it easier to hit off of a tee for me.  I use the RBZ 3W off the tee on any hole that requires a very straight tee shot - or where length is not an issue or concern.  As I can place the 3W in the fairway at a higher percentage than my driver.

The shaft in the Tour RBZ is fairly light at 76g (Matrix X-con 7) with a 43.5" length.  The Titleist in comparison was a steel True Temper DS300 stiff at 78g.  The biggest difference I see between the two clubs is that the Titleist 980F was a D2 weight whereas the RBZ is D4.  Basically the RBZ is a little heavier at the head - I believe this is largely impart due that the RBZ 3W is a little longer than the 980F.

Regarding the RBZ 3W... It does seem hot off the face.  The speed slot or whatever they call it - does seem to increase the ball speed off the face.  So you will probably get a few more yards out of the club than a traditional legacy 3W.  I know I picked up some yardage over my Titleist.  I never hit my 980F on Trackman, but I believe it would be in the order of 5yds on non center hits - and 10 to 15yd increase on center face hits.

My only gripe is that I need to get different shafts (upgrade) in all of my fairway and hybrids, as they just seem a little whippy or difficult to control off the turf.  I have no issue off the tee.

Great feedback, thanks. I too use a 3W off the tee on tight fairways (more control over my driver). I'm just looking for a little more distance because I'm 61 and my swing speed has decreased. I also use my 3W a lot on the fairway, I currently have the Cobra S3 which I like but I'm really thinking of going to the RBZ. I played today with a guy with one and he swore by it. ************** is selling them with a discount for $195 versus the $229 price everywhere else. I just may pick one up.

I have a 13* Tour TP.  Answer is Yes and No.  It's not all hype, it IS a long 3wd for sure, feels hot off the face and it will hit bombs.  BUT it's not longer then other long fairways...I've hit it back to back with my TEE CB1 15* and it's not really much longer, a bit due to lower loft maybe, but I'm confident a 13* CB1 or other TEE would hang with it.   Love the RBZ off the tee because it's so large, but TEE is MUCH easier for me to hit off the deck due to the more square leading edge, IMO.

I will agree on them being "driveresque", I'm not going to claim 300yd 3wds, but I've poked some out 265yds in normal conditions, absolutely huge 3wd for me.

    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
