Touching up golf ball scuff marks?

Perhaps it's the sign of the economy, but I was going through my "used" golf balls (i.e. scuff marks, etc.) and was considering touching them up and repainting them.  I play with a Srixon Soft Feel and as an experiment took some fine grade sand paper and swiped away at a scuff mark.  It easily came off but left a raw, dull, spot where the scuff mark was, obviously.  Now, I am looking into buying a paint pen (probably at your art store) and going over this area in white.

I guess if I wanted to get real fancy would be to spray a clear seal over it.  Krylon has a paint called Krylon Fusion which is made for plastics, but I don't think I'll need a spray can and I don't want to paint the whole ball either.  As soon as I start I'll post some pictures.  But curious, has anyone tried this?

wouldn't that be altering the ball and making it illegal, though?

I guess if I did this during play, but don't see that happening.  As far as ball refinishing goes, haven't you seen all the re-furb balls at the store and Ebay..  My question is if anybody here has tried it..

The only concern that I would have is would the paint fill in the dimples and make the ball fly weird.  Ive tried a few of the refurbished balls and find that they dont fly like new balls do.  IMO, thats a result of them being repainted to make them look more like new balls.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

yes but they haven't removed dimples from the ball.  i can't imagine that any amount of sanding wouldn't affect the dimples to a point that they don't exist in that area.

I have been using the Wilson Fli golf balls from Wal-Mart. I don't get upset when I lose them which can happen quite often depending on the day I'm having. They Only run you about $5.98 for a box of 12. Not the best golf balls but they fit my budget right now.

Or just retire that ball and load up a new one.  I mean seriously, why would you fuss about a $3 ball?

When a ball has been damaged due to use it goes in the shag bag. I'll practice with those until it's time to go in the trash. I don't buy refurbs and I don't play bad balls when I am scoring. I'd rather play something cheap without defects like a Noodle than trying to use a more expensive ball with a big scab on it. I'd be less concerned about how it flies and looks than how it rolls after being sanded and painted.

I found this ball in the bushes. Try that pen out on this one lol.  Fixing up balls sounds crazy to me though. Hit em how they are, or don't use them at all.

Sincerely, Jim

I was thinking the same thing. $3.00 x 12 = $36.00 per dozen. Now you're in the Titleist NXT Tour and Bridgestone B330 performance level of balls.
