Man O War, The Witch, Tidewater, Thistle, World Golf, or Arrowhead?

My family is taking a golf trip to Myrtle Beach in November. I was left with the choice of picking two courses to play while we were down there. I have played a few courses down there but had narrowed it down to this list:

Man O War

The Witch

Tidewater

Thistle

World Golf

Arrowhead

We have a few high handicappers but we will probably play best ball to keep our spirits high haha so difficulty isn't too big of an issue. I was just wondering if you guys could recommend two courses out of this list or a few more that you think we should play. We are staying at North Beach Plantation so I'd like to stay in the Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle, Conway areas. Caledonia and places down there are too far away. Thanks for any help!

Man O' War was a disappointment earlier this year, I won't go back.  Their selling point is the water, but the water levels were so low that instead of being scenic, we were greeted with mud lined puddles instead of the vast ponds and lakes that the pictures show.  The bugs were horrible because of the stagnant water also.

Thistle is a great course, one of my favorites.  Very friendly for a higher handicapper as well with nice wide fairways and realistic approach shots.

I've played World Tour twice this year, and had fun both times.  There's only 18 holes open right now.  There's 9 that are just renovated, and in awesome condition.  Those greens are Tiff Bermuda and are pretty fast and smooth.  The Sand on those 9 holes is synthetic, and always soft and fluffy, resulting in some great bunker play.  That's the good news.  The other 9 has bent grass greens that are in trouble and dying, which is why they switched to Tiff on the newly renovated holes.  They can't cut them super short, so they're are super slow.  The sand is packed and hard as well.  Not the worst I've played on by far, but if you start on the newly renovated holes, the back 9 will disappoint.  Other than the old greens, the service is great, the people are great and it's a fun round of golf.  The rough is thick and lush, and for your higher handicap friends, it may be a point of frustration if they don't keep it in the fairway.  Balls disappear into the rough like they do on TV, and it's a bit of a challenge to get a decent shot out of the thick, deep rough.

Other favorites of mine are Aberdeen and Wild Wing Avocet, especially playing with higher handicap players. Waterway Hills is a decent round as well, but it's not on the same level as the others, but playing all 27 is cheap if booked in advance and there are 27 holes to play.

Thanks for the advice! I was really leaning toward the witch and man o war for cost purposes but I may rethink that now. I have heard great things about tidewater and thistle so maybe those two. Anyone else have any experience with these.

Man O' War - definitely pass on that one

The Witch - excellent course especially for the $$$$

I hear Tidewater is great too... but pricey.

Okay thanks for the comments. I think I am gonna do the witch and thistle or tidewater. Not sure between those two yet.

Witch was a surprise excellent course (favorite of the week) and a real sleeper. And it is a good deal.

Got rained out at the witch last time down there ... huge disappointment.       Can't wait to try it ...

We have a place in Brunswick plantation and go down twice a year for golf only trips.  Thistle is my favorite course in the entire area- it's always in perfect shape and is extremely challenging.  Tidewater is a great course as well but can get pricey in November.  The witch is an okay course but man o war is awful.  I personally haven't played world golf or arrowhead but have heard great things about wg.  No matter what you pick any trip to MB is well worth it.

Played Thistle on St Patricks day. Great course. I will play it every time i go to Myrtle.
