I just got my grips redone and they seem a little bigger than before, but I went to a rubber grip from my Winn grips. Cheaper ;)

Anyway my hands fits around the grip but was wondering if there was a certain trick in figuring this out.

Thanks

The telltale sign of too big a grip is if you start slicing or fading the ball more than normal. (Conversely, too small means more hooks than usual.)

I think it's really whatever feels best for you. As a kid, standard grips felt best oppose to midsize. So i put all standard Golf Pride DD2's on last week. I love em.

Your ring finger on the top hand (left hand for right handed golfers) should barely touch the heel pad below your thumb at address. As written above, too large a grip can cause fades/ slices, and too small can cause draws/ hooks. Golfers with arthritis and other joint/ pain issues benefit from larger and softer grips. I see many off-the-shelf clubs with grips too large, especially ladies clubs.

brings up an interesting thought...how do you fit for certain number of wraps underneath the grip, etc? It's another thing the pros do that helps them and would be interesting to see if it works.

There are many methods to achieving the size that a golfer likes or needs. You can put a .580 grip on a .600 dia. shaft and get a 1/64 oversize grip. A .600 grip on a .600 shaft with one or two extra layers of tape will get the same result. Some ladies shafts are .590 or even .600 (??). So, we will put a ladies grip on and stretch it ½ to ¾ inch longer on the shaft to thin it out.
Some players like extra tape under the lower hand on wedges. This takes some of the taper out, increasing the size, for gripping the club down low.

There is a thing on Ping's website that uses the length of your and I believe it's your middle finger. That is how they determine their grip size when they custom fit clubs. I just go by that.

I just recently changed my grips to a standard size.
I was using the winn mediums and I felt like I had to grip the club tighter so I changed and I am hitting it better.

Keep it on the short grass.

Bang on right there. Its interesting because the 1st set i bought was top flite tour editions complete with carry bag, woods and irons for $400 new. I didnt know much about golf and the grips were large. When i started to hit the ball solid i began to play a natural power fade, even with a strong grip. So for the 1st 2 years i played a fade, and then i got some glubs with normal sized grips and started hitting draws.

I once had grips that were to big and I couldn't get the right wrist snap and my ball did a push slice. You will know once you start hitting them.
