After doing some number crunching... Rent, utilities, groceries, student loans, a $4K car repair bill... taken together with my meager income from under-employment... the situation is not good.

Luxuries are the first things to go. And to say the least, golf is a luxury. I never really played more than twice a week, but now I can't even afford the $20 it would take to play a cheapo course on a weekday.

Sucks puttin' the clubs away for what you know will be the last time for a while... I was just starting to get the hang of it...

just a thought - there is a park near me that never gets used other than by an occasional dog walker ... it's a great place to practice golf shots.   There are tons of golfers who use it ... it's mowed and free and you just have to shag your own balls.     I put flags out there at various distances & kind of play my own 3 hole course (driver, hybrid & wedge) - gives you something to aim at.     Maybe you could find someplace like that & at least keep your game up for now until things get better financially ...

don't forget "hot deals" on golfnow.com .... I often play mid day weekend rounds with a cart for $12-14.    Especially this time of year - golf is going to get cheaper as the fall goes forward ...

Thank you for the hot tips!

If I get out one more time, it will be with friends on October 6th. I'll try to find a good deal then.

I'm sorry that things aren't a little better right now, but tough times always pass. Especially for someone who isn't afraid to tighten the belt and prioritize responsibly. There are a lot of people in your posItion who would fall behind on some of their other obligations, or worse yet, break out the credit card rather than suck it up for a little while. Good on ya....you'll be back at it in no time!

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
