In today's broadcast, discussing the Tiger/Rory friendship (I don't use words like "bromance". Ewwww), there was mention of the "good old days" when top rivals used to hate each other. Um, who exactly? And not some media-manufactured hype, and not just envy. Who really hated whom? I mean guys in contention for #1, not the Sabbatinis who rub people the wrong way. Anyone know?

Hate is a strong word but I remember reading that Lloyd Mangrum wasn't well liked about many of his peers and I'm not too sure how well Phil and Tiger got along in the early days.  Vijay has a few spats with other players, and I'd guess that some guys weren't big fans of Daly.  I'm not sure that hate would fit though.

What about the days when it was just Tiger and Poulter at the top of the OWGR? Those were the days.

hate is great in sports...golf doesn't breed hatred as much as some others due to playing the course. Think of the great rivalries that have helped fuel various sports Sox and Yankmees - Steelers / Cowboys of the 70's - Celtics / Lakers 80's the divsional hate that grows into the faberic of entire regions...there are reasons why Philly hates New York, it imore then just the additude it is the Giants, Mets and Knicks and Rangers...i would root for just about anyone short of North Korea before cheering for the Giants. Heck i had money on them in Super Bowl VS Pats and only wanted them to cover not win!

Who doesn't remember the Euro's crying as the Americans stormed the green after Lenards putt? Seve while pretty much an ass in his actions by most written accounts was the best at it...he didn't give a damn about being liked he cared about winning. i can respect that i don't have to like him!!!

In my opinion the Ryder cup needs to be played at Bethpage in 16...that would be an epic weekend, Sergio may not make thru that week! i most likely would even attend just to be a part of history as the largest home field advantage ever!!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
