I recently did the shaft optimizer and got the pictured results.  They suggested a stiff shaft, but I was taught that if you are in between stiff and regular, you should go with regular.  Can anyone help? Also, I've been seriously thinking of going to a graphite shaft since I like the lighter feel of an iron with graphite.

How old are you and how athletic do you consider yourself. You have somewhat of a slow club speed but a fairly fast tempo. Also a high handicap. Do you think you are going to make some swing changes anytime soon or have you been slowing down?

79 mph is your swing speed, correct? I did not think that was that fast. I tested a 7 iron the other day and my ss was 95ish give or take a few mph. I was told that I was on the border of stiff to xstiff.

according to the chart above, with a 95 mph ss, you should be solidly in the X-stiff range, unless your tempo is a 2.  5 more mph and you'll be off the charts.

I have an extreme slow tempo. I am trying new shafts, and I probably need xstiff at least in my 7-PW. I get a lot of ballooning sky high approach shots. The distances are okay except when playing in the wind is becomes an issue.

I would go with the Project X 5.5 probably. You seem that you definitely shouldn't get a regular (~5 rating) shaft, but the KBS Stiff (a 6.1 rating) is probably too stiff. The Project X is a nice medium. I recently did their shaft fitting as well, and found through personal testing that with my tempo of 5 and SS of 88ish with a 6 (you're swinging a 7, which will actually be slightly slower). The KBS fits me perfect, with the 5.5 a tad bit soft and spinny for me, which makes me think it would be a good starting place when you test out clubs. But either way, go out and test the different shafts if you can before buying to see which gives you the tightest dispersion.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
    • No! Is a large part of the human population selfish, apathetic and cuts corners in the name of self-preservation 'more than they would like to admit', yes. Degenerate, scum, etc?.. no!! Most humans/men would not grope a woman like Phil is accused of doing (I think he absolutely did). That is scum. I mean what % of men do you think would do that? Seriously??
