Answer the poll and tell us the story.

Mine was an Eagle only one ever par 4 pitched in from about 60 yards

Come close to a hole in one once 140 yard par 3 over water hit 8 iron within two inches.

Mine was at the 14th at Broadlands golf course. It's a par 5 dogleg left with trees on the dogleg, where you can see the green over a lake around the dogleg. The trees only go partway down the sharp dogleg, meaning if you hit a tee shot on the right side of the fairway and hit it long enough, it's a simple shot on in two despite the 570 yard distance on the scorecard. I hit a good drive, maybe 280, but down the right side near the trees leaving myself with a small blind draw from 190 out to the pin. Hit an easy 6 and my partner near gave me a heart attack. Here's his dialouge, "That's going to be on, nice shot...Wait, that's a great shot, within 10 feet. IT"S IN THE MOTHER ****ING HOLE!!!!!!!Wait, wait, no, I was wrong, you're left with a few feet for eagle". It was probably the most interesting eagle I've ever made.

Number 5 @ ivy hills country club. 130 yard par 3. Took my nine , hit a good shot, 1 bounce and rolled in the cup. First ever ace at age 16. This was 3 weeks ago.

Hole in one. Just a week and a half ago. 181 yard par 3 at Teal Bend in Sacramento. Used a 6 iron and shot it 18" past the cup...watched that bad boy spin back all the way in. Best iron shot I have ever had. A complete fluke.

You, sir, have stolen too much luck from the rest of us. Please return it immediately so I can have a hole in one, instead of forcing me to watch as my closest hole in one attempt does a 180* lip out back at me.

162yd par3....8-iron ACE   Easily my best shot.......I also have 12 eagles on par4s and about 100 eagles in total.   The ace definitely takes center stage........

PS.....I even holed a shot from 228yds on a long par4 for eagle......it's still not my best shot because I only have 1 ace.   The 228yd hole-out is just the best of 12, but scoring a 1 is in an entirely different class.

Eagle on #16 at Terra Lago (South Course). I had about 120 yards left for my approach and holed out.

Just a simple bird on a par 3 last month. My ball landed on the green, hopped once, hit the stick and settled for an 8 inch tap-in. One of my playing partners swore he saw it go in the hole and bounce out. It would have been my second ace if it had gone in. The satisfaction comes because I had just carded an 8 on the previous hole  playing with two guys I didn't know, and it's nice to show one has some game.

Another satisfying hole this summer was a par on a dogleg 4. I sliced the tee shot into a water hazard. Took the drop and put the third one on the green with a 190 yard 5 wood. Then a 20 footer dropped.  That's my only par with a penalty shot and also one of two times I've parred that hole.

Two eagles in a three hole stretch.  A par 5, driver, 3 wood, 18 foot putt, one hole later, par 4, 2 iron, wedge.

Mine was the par 5 4th on Allister Mackenzie at Haggin Oaks. Normally get pars on it, but one day I hit a 325 yard drive and realized I had a shot at the green with my 5 iron. Had to go over water which is intimidating, but I knocked down within 5 feet for an eagle try and sunk the putt.

    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
    • Day 56 (4 May 26) - Worked on some ball-then-ground drills - going from P3 thru impact - with a slowed tempo, working to keep all parts in sync.
