I have heard that at impact your swing plane should be hitting at the 4 o'clock on the ball ( a clock around the ball when looking down at setup) When I do this I feel like the swing is more in-to-out. Is this just a feeling because i am so used to an out to in swing?

After a bad tee shot it does not mean the hole is over, it means you have an opportunity to show what you are made of!

Most good players swing the club on an inside to out path...even those who fade it.

Hitting the ball at 4 o'clock may be a good mental picture but it's impossible unless the face is pointing 30° right *and then it's possible with ANY path):

You are right Erik....and agreed it would be a great mental key for the player who has an outside to in swing path. The same as the old tip that has the golfer imagine the ball is a cube and you are trying to hit the back corner of the cube.

Have to agree, 1 degree being 1/360 of a circle, and 1 hour being 1/12 of a circle, thats very substantial.

You'd be surprised how little a change will produce a big effect on the golf ball.

    • Good luck with your journey toward straighter iron shots.  I just wanted to add one small suggestion.  My suggestion is to get data. I suggest shotscope or Arccos. Golf is such an interesting game and lots of factors can influence everything from our score to how many GIR's we get. etc...  It's been my experience that data helps confirm what we know. Plus, most humans improve on what they track. The process of tracking measurements helps us improve.  BTW - My off season has been filled with full swing work. A couple of lessons from Yoda, one with, one without GEAR's. Tons of swings in front of a mirror. I've still yet to hit a ball off actual grass so far this year. Hopefully soon.
