I know a couple of 80 year olds that use high lofted woods.

It's strange to see someone hitting a wood from 120,,but it seems to work for them.

The biggest problem I see is that they tend to get very little spin on the ball, so the ball tends to roll too far once it lands.

I thought about a 9 wood - once.

But I think a high lofted hybrid with a custom setup so the shaft length is closer to the similar iron, would work better - if I were to go to such a setup.

I do play up to an 11 metal wood. All my woods are the original Adams Tight Lies. I have them for 3, 5, 7, 9, & 11 woods. The longest iron I play is a 6I. The height of the faces on these tight lies clubs is fairly small; they 'feel' like hybrids. All my clubs have graphite shafts. Have not looked into 13+ woods, as my 6I is good for me. At my age of 75, they work for me.

    • Day 2 March 13th, 2025 Hit a small bucket checking stuff on video. Mostly back to controlling swing length and right elbow.
    • Video 1 of 2025 Lower body is better. Right knee kicks out less. Left knee straightens better. I don’t have that knee bounce post impact. Backswing and downswing with the arms, needs a bit of work. Nice OTT move there. Video 2 of 2025 - hey I can keep it short.  back to trying to keep the swing shorter and control the right elbow. Lots of half backswing feel and very straight arms. Also trying to start the downswing sooner so the swing doesn’t go on forever with the turn. Got to limit it to 90 degrees shoulder and 45 degrees hips.
    • Day 236: did a stack session.
    • Day 164 - 2025-03-13 Got the new QuadMAX. Didn't get a chance to test it, but got to Golf Evolution about 45 minutes before lessons, so I did some backswing and downswing work in.
    • @klineka has already addressed this stuff, but as I said in my first answer… distance control is typically more important. Knowing exactly how far a ball will carry is huge.
