I know a couple of 80 year olds that use high lofted woods.

It's strange to see someone hitting a wood from 120,,but it seems to work for them.

The biggest problem I see is that they tend to get very little spin on the ball, so the ball tends to roll too far once it lands.

I thought about a 9 wood - once.

But I think a high lofted hybrid with a custom setup so the shaft length is closer to the similar iron, would work better - if I were to go to such a setup.

I do play up to an 11 metal wood. All my woods are the original Adams Tight Lies. I have them for 3, 5, 7, 9, & 11 woods. The longest iron I play is a 6I. The height of the faces on these tight lies clubs is fairly small; they 'feel' like hybrids. All my clubs have graphite shafts. Have not looked into 13+ woods, as my 6I is good for me. At my age of 75, they work for me.

    • Clearly what happened is that he spent 4-5 hours learning Tiger's balls and it adversely affected him playing with his own balls
    • 2 weeks ago... I would have said an 'out of nowhere' slice off the tee.  I'd be hitting shots into the fairway (or just off the fairway), and suddenly, I'd hit a 50 yard slice that ends up in somebody's cereal bowl in a kitchen.

Currently... a wild hook from the tee.  It started recently and I can't figure it out... at all.  Luckily it hasn't seemed to hurt me too badly (yet), but... it makes it tough because my typical shot shape (for years) has been a fade, so... I prefer to aim at the left side of the fairway.  Now, with this hook, I feel like I can't aim at the left side because it could put me in trouble... so I aim up the right and, when I hit a straight shot, it's a big push.

      ... shrug ...

    • Definitely... DEFINITELY don't be the creepy 'cart girl is hot' guy.  It gets awkward in a hurry.  In 2004, I was playing with a club that played all around the area I was living in.  I was 25 at the time and, by far, one of the younger guys in the club.  I often got paired with the guys that were mid 40's and would make completely inappropriate comments about the cart girls.  Seeing as how many of the girls were in my age range, it was always very awkward to hear what they were saying and, truthfully, I never respected anybody who made comments like that.

Beyond that... I enjoy playing with people who have personalities.  I enjoy conversation beyond the typical pleasantries.  If I'm going to be on the course with you for 4+ hours... I'd expect to know something about you by the end of the round and vice-versa.

If you're willing to trade barbs back and forth (golf related or otherwise) and laugh about them... you're my kinda guy and I can see us playing together more in the future.  Being a big sports fan... I love playing with people who can talk trash AND take it without getting hurt feelings.  There's nothing worse than getting paired with someone who makes a comment about my Giants ball marker or my Mets hat, starts talking trash... and then says they're a Lions fan or something, but gets bent out of shape when I talk trash back.

    • Thanks you.  So many people on this site misread, or completely miss the true point of a response.  Shooting29 is another perfect example. I've been in a couple of 5-hour rounds the past few seasons.  I don't go to those courses anymore.  My normal rounds on weekends with my guys all happen at 4 hours or a bit shorter. My point was exactly as you read.  No sense in trying to get ahead of the group in front only to wait on the next group and have the group of you passed waiting on you.  Sometimes there is simply no way to escape slow play other than exiting the course. dave
    • Well that 16-19-1 record isn't going to explain itself away, now is it?
