Mizuno MP-R Wedges and others

2 questions:

1. Why is it that a lot of people like Mizuno irons but not their wedges? Both their irons and wedges are grain forged so should be the same no?

2. How does MP-R Wedges compared to CG10 or Vokey SM? What are the pros and cons of Mizuno wedges compared to these two or other popular wedges in the market?

It is probably a simply matter of people spending that much money on a wedge they don't know about when the Vokeys and CG-X models (and 588s) are so well known and respected. I am considering the MP-Rs myself, though.

I found out that one of the main reason that people prefer Vokey/Cleveland wedges is due to the grind of MPs. People are saying that MPs have a rounder grind vs the Vokey/Cleveland which makes it slightly more difficult (??) to use... I have to hit the stores to check them out...

Mizuno wedges are just too hard to use....no forgiveness at all such that you lose quite a bit of distance on not so perfect approach shots...doesn't spin as well as the vokey, cg10, tp wedges....I also thought that the forged would be very important in the wedges but I think it makes it kind of tough....from around the green no problem but for approach shots not the best

I just fished around Golf Galaxy until I found a wedge I was confident standing over the ball with, and hit a few balls in the cage with, and got the highest ball flight out of all the wedges I tried. It just happened to be an MP-R (I tried the CG10, Nike, Callaway, and Vokey wedges, as well). It's so money around the greens. I wouldn't use any other wedge. The talk about the club not being forgiving is a load of bunk, or I'm an exception. I've toed it before - the ball didn't even hit the grooves - and still got close to what I wanted.

It's obvious that you must be supertalented....golf magazine also reviewed in their annual golf club review 2007 and found the MP-R wedges not forgiving...so it's not just me that believes that the Mizuno are not forgiving but the people in their panel as well.....I played the MP-T wedges for about 2 years and regret not switching out wedges sooner....yikes...if you are the exception enjoy them....they are one bitchin looking set of wedges....maybe you should drop your adams sand wedge too

I bought the MP-R 52 and 56, I also tried the Cleveland CG10's and 11's in the shop. They actually felt pretty similar, the CG's are soft, well way softer than the old 588's I had. The Mizuno's do have that Mizuno feel to them, and they look the bomb (got the Black Nickel) so I bought them (they also matched my Iron set).

I actually like the grind on the 52, it sits nice on flop shots. Although I have had issues with distance control on anything but a full swing. This could be due to what you are saying about forgiveness. With my full swing I'm pretty consistent but I do hit it with a bit of a splatter pattern with anything less.

The 56 in sand I'm not so sure about, I think I'd prefer a flatter / wider flange. It sinks a little more in the sand than I'm used to.

Having said all that, I bought a 60 degree Vokey the other day and love it. Just feels really nice to swing and I love the feel of how the ball comes off the club. Wish I had tried these before buying the MP-R's.

Can't really give a balanced opinion on spin. For some reason I never pinch / take a divot on the ball when pitching like I do with my full swing. My short game is more of a brush stroke my pro is trying to sort this out but it might take a while!!!
