Hey, just saw this group.  I mostly play at Whittle Springs/Municipal because of the price.  But I really enjoy Dead Horse, Three Ridges, and the Wee course as well.

Dead Horse is my favorite for the price..

I have played at Dead Horse several times over the past year but I also venture to a lot of other courses in the area.  WindRiver, formerly know as Rarity Pointe, has become a favorite.  The have done some renovation to the bunkering at Centennial that will surely be an improvement.  River Islands is another good one but is usually a little crowded.  You can generally find pretty good deals on GolfNow for each of them.  I haven't been to Three Ridges but I hear good things about it.  The Wee Course seems like an ideal spot to work on the iron game.  We are fortunate to have some really good options.

The Wee Courst is great for working on Iron play and putting.  They have some really nice greeens.  I am most likely going to get a membership there this year.

I haven't gotten to play a lot of the courses out there since I just really started getting into the game, but you are right, Knoxville and surrounding area has a lot of places to play good golf.

I know I coming to this group and thread a little late, but I've been a member of Three Ridges PDP "player development plan" for 4 years now.  Really good deal $42 and you get unlimited range balls and you can play twilight for $10 with a cart.  The course is always in great shape with the exception of last year, but all courses around here suffered last year. Centennial is decent like the facility but the greens aren't the best.

I played Three Ridges for the first time back in the fall and really enjoyed it. The greens are challenging and the layout keeps it interesting. The only hole I found a bit quirky was the Par 4 11th but that is a minor critique. Now that I've seen it I plan to return when spring arrives. River Islands is a steal at $22 right now for their winter rate.

Yea If you can par out 9, 10 and 11 you have a good round going.  Wow may have to check out River Island if the snow/ice ever melts.

I live in Kingsport but play in Knoxville regularly...actually I'm iced in on cedar bluff now...I love RiverIslands and 3Ridges. Also, the Sevierville golf club is great. It's only $29 until march 1...if there's an opportunity to play it between now and then. I think the river course is closed however, so you will have to play the highlands. I haven't played Willow Creek yet and want to play TN National. Anyway, it's great to see a Knoxville group here

I'm not sure how to get on at TN National though I have not tried. They were having trouble attracting buyers so it may not be that difficult. Willow Creek is really nice and is maintained like a private course. They are a ways from you but the courses at Tellico are gorgeous in the spring. Rarity Bay is in great condition although there are a few houses in play... for me anyways. I need to get up to Sevierville and try those two and Gatlinburg Golf Course. Have any of the group been over to play Sequoyah National? Thinking of making a trip to play there and Grove Park this summer.

Ive been wanting to eat the seafood buffet then play grove park for a while...just hadn't done yet. I like Rarity. Maybe I will get Willow Creek in the Spring. Sequoyah is on my list to...play some black jack and some golf...I would like to do that in the fall. I hear its a target course.

It is still relatively new but the photos I've seen of Sequoyah are intriguing. There has to be a ton of relief. Grove Park Inn offers some midweek stay and play packages but I don know if the seafood is included. Willow Creek has a couple of screwy holes with less than distinct or intuitive landing areas but overall it's a nice track. Wind River, formerly Rarity Pointe, is one of my favorites in the area. It is worth the trip if you haven't played it.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
