Course Officials should just ask the spectators to refrain from shouting and to express their appreciation for the player's efforts with applause and whistles, respectful cheering, and to do so only  at the appropriate time.

In my  bag:

Driver, Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5 stiff

3, 5 woods: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 15,18 degrees Stiff

2 hybrid: Callaway Diable Edge Tour 18 degrees R (out when the 5 wood is in)

3,6 hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge 21 S and 30 degrees R

4,5 hybrids: Callaway Razr X HL 24 and 27 degrees Stiff

7-AW irons: Callaway Razr HL graphite R shafts

SW 54 Callaway X Series Jaws CC Slate Fujikura Graphite Stiff

Putter: Odessey White Ice 1 Blade Putter.

Ball...looking for any ball that hates water, sand, long grass, and getting lost in the woods.

I can't find any, so forced to use ones that seem to love all the above.

There is no practical solution except educate the masses towards better civic responsibility.  Security, who are in fact usually lowly paid and temporary day workers cannot be expected to wade into a crowd, identify one or more persons, and drag him/them away.  All this on the tee box as the next player prepares to drive the green.  And then, since they are rascals anyway, the offenders run away, down the fairway thumbing their noses at the tubby security guy running after.  Oops, the security man slid down the wet slope on his arse, let's hope the TV screen captured that one.  See where all this goes: totally contrary to the gentlemen's game.  But hey, modern instant communication and attention seeking facebook and twitter pages demand  we present ourselves to the world as 'bigger than life' and deserving of attention.  And maybe the golf course, open to all persons who have a ticket, and which may in fact be a state property (Bethpage), or private, may not be insulated from 'free speech' laws.  How is anyone hurt or threatened by such speech?  Annoyed, sure but so does the loud mouth cell user in the supermarket or rail car annoy us.  Can't do a thing except with each entry ticket offer an industrial, sound deadening,  pair of ear-muffs.

Free Speech is the government has no right to make any laws that would infringe upon your right to free speech, since a golf course is privately owned, they can kick you out for what ever reason they want.

Now you can stand on public right of way (sidewalk), and yell, "YOU THE MAN", all you want :p

That's an even better idea - they should have a "YOU THE MAN" section - like a smoking section.  Way back  - out of the way of decent folk :)

But that's the thing ... the PGA promotes stadium style holes and events like Wasted Management, so they've implictly given the nod to these *******s.

In my bag ... 12 year old Balvenie DoubleWood

    • High school golf coaches are often not really knowledgeable about the rules, I have an issue when a coach tells a player NOT to follow A specific rule.  As for the "stupidity" of this particular rule, I can't see a way to allow SOME stuff on the club face without allowing everything on the clubface.
    • My daughter has fiducials (what they call the reflective stickers for launch monitors) on a few of her clubs. At the start of the high school season I told her to make sure to remove them before matches. She told the jv coach about them and he said not to worry about having the stickers on.  I personally think this fits into the "stupid" rule category either way.

    • A report from day 2 of the event, an unfortunate situation occurred.  One player noticed that one of the other players in his group had what appeared to be stickers on several of his clubs, the ones on the face used with certain launch monitors.  Word got back to the rules staff, and we (surreptitiously) confirmed the presence of the stickers.  Those stickers are "external attachments", and their presence renders a club non-conforming.  If a Player uses a non-conforming club to make a stroke, he is DQ.  That's the easy part, the rule is pretty straightforward.  The tough part, how to handle it.  We considered having a quiet talk with the player while the round was still going on, but decided against it.  We didn't want to DQ a player in the middle of the round, having him walking back to the parking lot on his own, as well as changing the pace and rhythm of the other players in his group.  Instead, the Official in Charge, a young employee of the Middle Atlantic PGA who will be heading up their junior program this year, had a discussion with the player at scoring.  The player took it with good grace, said he never knew they were a problem.  He works with a swing coach, who was the one to help him put the stickers on in the first place, and apparently the coach never told him he needs to take them off.    Ther4e are a few things that a player may do once in his golfing career.  I think failing to identify his ball and consequently playing a Wrong Ball is one of those.  Getting DQ for stickers on a club face is another.
