I am interested in putting a driver back in my bag and was looking at the r7's. i went to mammoth and swung the new superquad and the burner. did not like the burner at all, it was way to light for me. i know last years R7 460 only had two weights and the superquad has four. other than that what are the differences. they dont sell last years r7 anymore. i'm not interested in changing ball flight but i do like the idea of the weights to help fix my 10yd fade i cant seem to get rid of. thanks for any help.

The R7 Superquad, I believe, is the best driver on the market. That being said, I don't have it. But it does have advantages:

1) MWT - best if you want to change your ball flight, which you do.

2) Four weights > 2 weights - for me, the more weights, the better you will get out of your settings.

3) It's not frickin huge.

The original r7 had four weights (400 cc head), the r7 425 has four weights, the r7 460 has two weights and the r7 Superquad (460 cc head) has four weights. The shafts vary a little bit from year to year (the better shafts being in the TP models). I have the original r7 and the 460 TP and they are both great clubs IMO. Best bet would be to hop on a launch monitor to find the right club & shaft combo that works you.

so what do you guys think was the best model. i know it will differ for each player. i was never really good with a driver and i always had a slight fade for forgiveness is important to me. i think i should get last years r7 460. i've seen a couple on ebay sell for under 200 new.

I personally like the r7 460 more than the Superquad. It could've just been the Superquad I demoed, but the ball didn't seem to come off the club as good.

It would depend on the shaft. I have changed it to a Fujikura rombax. It was fantastic.

I love my SuperQuad. I switched from a R7 425 Quad and I am verry happy with the switch. I hit this club further and straighter than any other driver I have owned. Comes off very hot off the face and the sound is pure excellence. The R7 460 is also an excellent choice. You made a great decision and Im sure you wont be disappointed. Good luck and BOMB it!

The superquad with the MWT should be able to help you with your slight fade. I think the superquad is really sweet... Me too am thinking of getting my hands on it soon. I find that its pretty easy to fire it off.

Good luck

I used to carry the original r7. Best club ever made at the time. But i found a cheap buy on a r5 dual TP with a shaft that i couldnt pass up. Turns out the shaft was woth $1k and ended up paying 150 for the whole club. TP models are more expensive, but for a better ball striker, they are the way to go.

If you're looking for distance and more options in shaping ball flight, go for r7 SuperQuad. r7 460cc simply can't be compared to r7 SuperQuad. It's like comparing a regular car to a race car, literally. Let me tell you why.

A close a friend of mine used to have r7 425cc 10.5deg. I used to be outdriven by only around 10-15 yards. A few months ago he asked me, "I'd really love to have longer and more penetrating shots with my driver. Also, I want them to be straight shots. What do you suggest?" At that time r7 SuperQuad had just launched a few weeks. I said, "Hey there's this new driver called r7 SuperQuad. It's like mine (r7 460cc) but with 4 ports and dressed all black. I'm not sure how it's gonna to perform but judging by its appearance (the crown shape, the face depth, etc) it should be what you're looking for." And then without demoing he just took my words and bought the first edition all black 9.5 degree. I can honestly say his driver is dead straight and further at the same time. Now I'm outdriven by at least 40 yards everytime even he mis-hits! He almost won the longest drive challenge in the local tournament. The winner had 297 yards (6'4" tall guy) and his was 294 yards (he is 5'8" tall). Prior to that he never even came close in the longest drive challenge. Last week I was shocked to find out his drive went 80 yards further than mine on par 4. Furthermore, his older brother who never outdrive me ever before bought r7 SuperQuad in 10.5 degree. Now he outdrives me everytime. The reason why I'm not moving on to r7 SuperQuad is because I don't like the "thwack" sounds it procudes unlike r7 460 which is way better. Another thing is because r7 460 is easier to use to get the ball in the air but most of the time my shots balloon and I believe is why I can't get so much distance. Anyway, I hope my experience can help some who might need it.

HI fusioncal,

Which model of R7 Super Quad did your close friend bought? TP or normal? Do you know what are the primary differences between the two?
If possible can you enlighten me the difference with regards to the feel of the swing and impact if you've tested both?

I am only aware of the following difference of the specification between the TP model and normal
- bundles more weights for you to adjust your desired swing
- TP offers RH 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 deg loft while normal has an additional 11.5
- TP offers REAX 55, 65 and 75 shaft while the normal is only available in REAX 65.

For hard hitters or fast swingers, is the TP or normal club more appropriate?

Please pardon my ignorance. TIA. Cheers.

HI fusioncal,

The TP version is 1 degree open while the standard has a closed face at address.

HI fusioncal,

Hi there samz,

He got himself the non-TP version 9.5 deg. Well, the big difference was it felt heavier at impact compared to r7 460cc although the shaft that came with the head is exactly the same as mine which is Fujikura Re*Ax 60 R-Flex. Frankly, I have slower swing speed (90ish) than him (around 100ish) and probably that is the main reason why I can't get the ball higher and further than him using both r7 460 and r7 SuperQuad. Whenever he's using r7 460cc he has to slow down and smooth out a bit of his swing to get the maximum distance but boy he still bombs it further than me. Anyway, at address r7 460 looks a bit bigger from the top. If you notice it has a bit wider but shallower face compared to r7 SuperQuad. Indeed TP version has more bundles in adjusting the weights to shape the ball flight. My friend had bought the bundle that came with 8 different weights when he still had r7 425cc 10.5 (non-TP). He didn't use them much, because eventually he asked me to adjust it back to neutral. Also, you're right about the varieties in shafts and lofts in TP version. As Fletch09 has said, the TP version has more open face than normal version. And I'm not sure where I read this, but lower loft has more open face. For hard hitter and fast swinger, generally, needs to have some sort of compensations in the club, for instance the TP version. But you don't know it for sure unless you hit the launch monitor. So. it's best to get yourself analyzed so you don't end up with the wrong spec.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
