I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 105

My typical ball flight is: SLICE, otherwise inconsistent

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: The dreaded super magna slice out of the tee box.

Videos:

My son has been using the hay bales as a backstop for practicing his bow, so I figured what the heck I might as well use it too.

I done some analyzing and have noticed that my left wrist is cupped. This is really the first time that I've seen my swing. I need some work!

I'd like to give a huge shout out to jhwarren. Dude, you're the best. He analyzed my swing and give some awesome tips. I really appreciate it and this forum is the best. Thank you, everyone.

Hard to believe you are a high handicap golfer, your setup is good but you bring the club inside and around and try to recover by coming up and over which causes a steep out to in swing. One of the best drills for over the top calls for the golfer to place a volley ball or small football between your forearms and swing the club back fairly straight then more up then around. You will feel the correct plane to be on during the back swing and I am sure you will be breaking 90 in the not so distant future

I appreciate the info. It's amazing that I can't see my own mistakes, but they seem so obvious when other folks do the same thing. I had recently gotten some instruction from another forum member, and had a good round this past Friday. I started forcing an outside-to-in swing and actually hit 6 fairways-in-regulation. I was on the way to my best round ever when some old bad habits returned and I blew up 2 holes on the back 9. I can see that I'm gonna require a lot of practice to fix this. Since I've made these mistakes for more than 10 years, they sneak back in when least expected.

if you keep your trailing arm from getting behind your side, it will help you shorten the swing. it's hard to correct when you go so far behind. i try to keep my trailing arm relatively close to where the elbow should be at impact.

are you getting the hips forward to start the downswing?

Driver: 10.5* callaway Razr Hawk Tour - 350 yards(usually into the wind, it can be windy here. at least 400 with a little wind behind me)

Hybrids: 2 and 3 callaway Hybrid razr tour (312 and 287 respectively)

Irons: 3i-10i callaway forged standard length(278, 263, 250, 235, 221, 213, 201, 190)

Wedges: callaway jaws cc 52* 12 approach, 56* 16 sand, 60* 13 lob (0-185)

Odyssey Black tour #9 putter(5 ft, i'm always at least within 5 feet on my approach shot)

I wonder who on this forum is a PGA tour pro, disguised as a normal player..

2013: play in the US amateur qualifier

Yes, I start the hips and have a decent lag, I think, anyway. I'm working on a lot of things in the mechanics of my swing, as of now. I did more research and realized that my grip needed improvement, also. As you mentioned, I'm struggling to remember a short back-swing. Not to mention that I'm also working to stop the outside to inside swing path, which is helping considerably. In the past, i've played 18 holes and didn't hit the fairway. I've started hitting some straight drives espescially when I remember to put all of the corrections into play.

I intend to put up some fresh video soon and continue with improvements. I hope to be like you guys, some day, and give advice from my own experiences. This website and the members are awesome.

The last 3 courses that I've played have been difficult, so my score has increased by about 6-8 strokes. I'm sure changing my swing is adding some to that, but today I will be playing an easier course, so hopefully I'll be able to see different results. Kaosati Pines, Kinder, La Slope:137; Rayburn Country, Brookeland, Tx Slope: 136; The National Golf Course, Westlake, La Slope:?

Another thing to think about is that you are standing up a bit in your downswing. I had a similar problem before, I fixed it by making a conscious effort to get my weight on my left side in to start the downswing. Do you have any problems with balance? It's one of the many things that can stem from bad balance and it's one of the first (and simplest) things to work on.

In the Bag 2013:

Driver:  FT-9 Draw i-Mix 10.5*

3 Wood:  R11s 15.5*

3 Hybrid:  Idea Tech V3 19*

Irons (4-PW):  ZB Forged

Wedges:  Tom Watson PVD; 52.07*, 56.13*, 60.07*

Putter:  White Ice #1 33"

Amazingly, no I don't have a problem with balance. After an awesome fellow on this forum did a video analysis, I was able to bring my swing back on plane. And since then, I've taken my first golf lesson. The instructor says that I have good swing mechanics, but have some work to do, obviously. I've been locking my right leg on my back swing which is causing some of the up/ down motion, if not all of it. I've got to increase lag in the down swing. My grip was fubar. I think too much which is really an issue being seriously ADD. Maybe I need a higher dosage! Lmao He gave me some drills to practice and said to see him after 500 balls.

After the 1st session with an instructor, he said that I'm releasing to early. So, I've got to work on that lag mentioned above. I'll try to get some video on my next off-days.
