Yardage Book Attempt #1, what are your thoughts?

Personally, I think Google Earth is accurate (enough)... You can use measurement tools to measure distances within Google Earths application, and they are pretty accurate from what I've seen.

Now hear me out... I don't have any hard evidence that says it is 100% accurate... Because I wasn't using my notebook with Google Earth out in the fairway while I was standing on a sprinkler - getting a number  from Google Earth and then shooting the same number with a laser to compare it to the sprinkler.

But my point is that there are some courses that I've played enough to know what club I'm hitting from a Par 3... And when I measure the distances from the tee box to the center of the green, the numbers I'm getting from Google Earth are very close to what I see on the marked yardages for that hole - or what I've found with my GPS (Golfshot).  So I think Google Earth is pretty accurate.  Definitely within 2 to 3yds. And I think that is pretty fair to use when trying to map out a chart like the OP is doing.

With that being said... And as others have said... The chart example the OP listed was pretty useless.  But I don't want to bash the guy because he said it was just an example and he was going to fill more data in.  So it is what it is...

The charts are only going to be useful if you have put the time in to make them easy to read, they are fairly accurate, and they help you focus on your strategy you've mapped out for that given hole.

It looks good. Show the layout of the hole, and allow room for making notes.

I would suggest you have one style for drawing sand traps, and a second style for prominent trees. I couldn't tell if the sketched areas along the left were tree clumps or bunkers.

Also, consider placing...

• a box in one lower corner which gives hole No., Par, and Yardage Distance(s). This would be particularly helpful for those not familiar with the course.
• the score card on the back page.

I like yardage books because they show a lot more information. If your playing a new course, and you have a blind shot, you got to use GPS, or you have to walk up to a point were you can sight a laser shot, then pace it back, which ruins the accuracy if your not use to pacing.

Yardage book, you can locate your self, know if your going to be hitting over a hazard, draw definition in the green were tiers are at so you can carry enough club.

I'm actually a fan of yardage books as well. Not for tourney golf, as I've never participated in anything serious, but for new courses. With over 100 courses here, and my frequent golf travels, I rarely play the same course twice. I actually try to play a new course every week. I like a nice yardage book to both give me a quick idea of what the hole looks like and to keep as a memory of the round. I have Golfshot GPS app for my iPhone which I use for yardage, but a nice yardage book from the pro-shop is worth the $5 for me if it's my first time playing the track.
