Weird... my ss is only 102-104... but my AVERAGE carry is 260... am I delusional? I don't think so since I have too many witnesses AND a launch monitor to back me up (although I guess those are not fool-proof). Can someone tell me the correlation?

Then either your driver is non-conforming or the launch monitor needs calibration. Here's why, with a COR of .83 the max you can carry a ball at 104 is

256, and that's with a perfect strike. It's a law of physics. My average clubhead speed is 103 and my average carry is 245. On occasion, I will make perfect impact and get over 250.

I wish I could hit it as hard as some of the higher handicaps on here lol, my swing speed was tested by ping at 100 - 105 mph with the driver, carrying the ball about 240, and also believe it or not most tour pro's don't swing much faster than 110 - 115, which in my opinion would suggest some of your speed assumptions are incorrect.

on SCRAMBLES.... 330 plus if hit well, best is 380 (in florida, with mushy fairways).... in a scramble . If not hit well usually a duck hook to nowhere or a high slice...

So when playing for $$$ it is usually a 4 iron about 210 down the middle...slight fade.

I haven't had mine measured with my current driver setup, but I'm probably around 115-120 on good loose days. My average carry is probably 275-280 when I hit it solid, which isn't very often.

I try to keep my swing around 105-110 to keep it in the fairway around 260 or so

I usually feel the same way, and you and I have similar handicaps. At the range the other day, this guy comes over to talk. Really nice guy, tells me he's a 15 handicap. Says he needs to get more accurate and improve his short game. Anyway, he sees I have my Swing Speed Radar and asks if he could hit a few drivers to see his clubhead speed. I said sure and set it up for him. He takes a pretty smooth swing, but impact is so loud, I was thinking, "This guy has some MAJOR speed." I looked at the device and it read 124 mph!

I KNOW this unit is very accurate. I was shocked! and the guy is a 15 handicap! If I had that speed (and mine is similar to yours), I'd be a + handicap!

And now you know why he's a fifteen handicap-not accurate and needs to improve his short game.

I'm sure he'd trade his distance for your handicap.

Your right, there are always going to be some high handicappers with very high club head speeds, but it is also unlikely that the majority of high handicappers on this site have high swing speeds, but this is an argument not worth entering in to as it would never get resolved.

Your the same as me, if my swing speed was 115 + my handicap would plummet

My average swing speed is 100-105, but Max out is 110. I just upgraded from Reg to Stiff shaft. My average carry is about 240-250 yards.

I was measured on a launch monitor at 96 MPH and my normal carry is 220-230 yds.

Now that I have moved from a 45" to a 43" driver (that the pros were using 25 years ago), my accuracy has improved at a sacrifice of about 15 yds distance.

15 yards!! Wow. I had thought the difference was minimal. I'm going to have a driver built @ 44".

Changed (actually improved) over my old post. I average 105 now, and max out at 115-120. I have 250-270 of carry, without too much roll though.

I have not seen a chart but when I got fitted the pro told me this. Multiply your ball speed by two and then divide that by three. That is your clubhead speed.

here ya go

Unless I'm misunderstanding, this chart cannot be right. The long drive pros beginning swing speed is greater than the highest of the pros but their distance is less.

130 MPH swing speed gives you a distance of 295 yards-Long Drive. 127 MPH swing speed gives you a distance of 302 yards-Pro Golfer. How is that possible?

OK guys you are looking at this to simplisticly. I am a slow swinger. My swing speed goes from 87 to a max of 93. Ball speed between 125 and 130. Ball speed doesn't go up as much because the quality of my contact goes down as I swing harder. Spin and launch angle are also factors. If you are really a solid player your ball speed is about 1.5 times your swing / clubhead speed. My maximum carry is only 210, average about 225 total distance.

Have 'yall seen Jason Zuback (sp?) play in the exhibition at the beginning of the Albertson's Nationwide event? Talk about swingspeed.....and yet, the guy has no game at all.

I was at Riviera last week at one of the holes with a swingspeed radar that they were using to accumulate data for Shotlink (I think). I was following John Daly's group and also I saw Phil on a few holes. On this particular hole with the radar (#12, where all the guys I saw used driver), Daly's swingspeed was 116, and his playing partners were 106, and 103. I asked the guy manning the radar what the highest swingspeed of the day was, and he said Bubba Watson at 119. Daly wasn't swinging out of his shoes, but he definitely went after it (the others didn't really leave anything in the bag either). So what's the point? They all hit their drives over 290 (lots of roll) and in the fairway. Jason Zuback has tons of speed, but he's probably not better than a 10 hcp. Plus, a lot of amateurs with high swing speeds are doing so with really whippy shafts. All these pros are using x-stiff, heavy shafts.

I used to use a 983E with a Graffaloy Prolite Stiff, and my swingspeed was 118-122, but I was hitting it all over the place. Now I use a 907 D2, with a Proforce V2 85 X-stiff, and my speed is down to 110 or 112. My carry hasn't changed that much, but I get more roll and less backspin.

Take it from me, don't worry about swing speed. I think I read in Golf Digest said that the average tour speed is 113, and yet they hit the ball pretty far because of roll and great conditions. But we don't play on courses that long. Just keep the ball in play and learn to chip and putt. You can't score with the driver, but you can sure screw up a good score with it. Plus, on #16 at Riviera (par 3, 155-170 depending on pin placement) most guys were hitting 7 iron when I was there (no wind) and that pin wasn't in the back. These guys aren't hitting it as far as the tv announcers are saying.

    • Can be out and up a little more. Not quite over-done yet.
    • Down the line and face on from today. Still feeling like I’m sticking the club into a hole in the ceiling above my right shoulder and then big loop inside to start downswing. That’s how it feels. Not how it looks though! Gotta keep working on this for a bit but I see a lot of progress. 😁
    • Day 5 (13 Mar 26) - Friday shootout cancelled- made it a practice round working from mixed tees. Plenty of up and down work around greens.  Best was a hole out birdie on the par 3 #5 hole - nice pitch and roll w/Pw from about 10yds off the green - dead center flagstick drop.  Much of round was focused on getting solid weight shift into lead foot.
    • Day 208 3-13 Worked on wrist arching and flow. First time hitting reall balls at a range in months. It was nice to see ball flight. Still not sure it beats my backyard practice station.
    • Three hole match - microphones on in the cart. It's fascinating listening to them talk about their shots and how they play them. I'm not normally a huge fan of the TM videos - they seem forced to me - but this one doesn't. It's also fun seeing their competitiveness over what on the face of it is a fairly meaningless 3 holes, but they can't help themselves.
