This is the first time besides shifting through the massive amount of threads. I am a relatively new golfer going into his second real season of play. I played 15 times last year and a few the year before that. I am looking for whatever advice I can get on equipment selection or possible game improving clubs etc. I know before someone says it, these are not what will improve my game. I just want to make sure I have a good foundation and what I need prior to the series of lessons coming in the near future. Last year I was able to cut 10 strokes by playing a little more and getting fit for shaft. This I what is currently in my bag: R11 TP 8* w/ x-stiff bimatrx shaft (hasn't been hit yet) Or CGB Max 9.5* w/ Motore F1 x-stiff shaft Callaway x18 Irons ( p - 5 ) Nike VR 3 & 4 Hybrid Cleveland 56, 52, and 60 BeCu Wedges Odyssey Backstrike Putter Ball: I hit whatever I have I appreciate whatever suggestion you all may have and thank you!

What is your swing speed? 8 degree amid 9.5 degree drivers are VERY difficult to hit and require an extreme amount of swing speed. That coupled so that coupled with a x-stiff shaft and I suspect you either have a very aggressive move at the top of your back swing or you are a VERY strong player. The only other piece that I would suggest, is that as you start to take the game a little more seriously you might find that you will appreciate having the same ball. It won't matter if the ball is a xl5000 or a titleist, as long as they are the same you will learn to feel the ball and it will improve touch shots (putting, chipping). As you get better you will find that you prefer a certain kind of ball and play that, but to start, I suggest just playing the same ball, what ever that ball might be.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I agree with pick and playing one ball and have been weighing the options between two. I could always use a little more touch! When I was getting fitted I comfortably sat in Around the mid 120s, but did go into the 130s. The Cgb Max, I was told had a tendency to produce more loft than listed, which mine was well above what it should have been as well as a tremendous amount of spin. At the time, I wasn't ready for a new driver but he told me what to look for. With the poor shaft, the hi ss, and my trajectory equaled massive balloon/slice effect. We still have snow here but can't wait to try the new one, and honestly should call and try to get on the monitor. The new heavier shaft should/hopefully help slow my swing down without it feeling like I'm half swinging. My putting needs work, I'm not terrible but not great. I seem to two put regardless where I'm at. I could be 30ft or 3ft same results. My real problems come with my irons. No consistency, and I defiantly have a different swing with them.

    • Ahh the old classic "nobody agrees with me so I don't want to talk about it anymore"
    • @anaveragehacker, you’ve been ignorant this whole time and now you’re being disrespectful. Not a great combo. You asked what the rules were and we told you. You complained about them and we told you why they were the way they are. The “who is the committee?” Question has been answered a few times. Dave and I are Rules Officials and the other people replying know the rules far better than you, so the fact that we are all disagreeing with you should say something. this thread is going nowhere and your original question has been answered several times.
    • What is this committee I keep hearing about? We’re a small league playing at a county course. And these are temporary issues that may be gone in a day or two. In any case, I wish more people agreed with me. It seems that trying to convince golfers to modernize rules is like trying to change the Bible. You guys are so serious it kind of proves my point. Other sports make adjustments for  field conditions etc during lower level play. This isn’t life and death here, it’s sport. No need to keep arguing. I have my opinion and you have yours.
    • Yeah, I agree that some of the charts are hard to make sense of. That short game chart is showing how often a short game shot ends up within a certain distance. The orange bar is all shots, the green bar is for shots within 25 yards, and the blue bar is for shots between 25 and 50 yards. I just play around with all of it and will figure it out. I would suggest just diving in and see what jumps out and work on that.
    • PGA Tour players weight shift to their lead foot way sooner and to a higher % than amateur. I would say it is something like close to 90% lead foot at impact for PGA Tour player. For Amateurs it could be under 50%. You need to get the weight transfer over more and sooner. You can't rely on the feeling of finishing on the lead foot as validation you did so.
