Hey all, I am 15 years old and I am a freshman on my highschool JV golf team my handicap is 15.1. I struggle with a slice on my driver and my 3 wood. I hit my hybrids and irons great. My driver goes 240 with a huge slice, imagine what it would be if it was straight. When asking my friends and looking at videos my wrist IS FLAT and club face is square or even closed. I still slice the ball... Any advice? Thanks

You are most likely swinging the club from too far outside and over the top. I had the same problem. I suggest you spend some time at the range with an alignment stick or a cheap substitute like a yard stick or even an iron. Lay it on the ground on the opposite side of the ball from you and point it right at your target. When you swing your driver, use a slow back swing and on the down swing keep the swing parallel with that sick and stay on the inside of it. This will keep your swing nice and straight. Make sure you follow thru with your hips....and finish with what some people call the super hero pose...belt buckle pointed at the target, chest out, and upright!

Keep practicing and let us know how its going.

In my  bag:

Driver, Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5 stiff

3, 5 woods: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 15,18 degrees Stiff

2 hybrid: Callaway Diable Edge Tour 18 degrees R (out when the 5 wood is in)

3,6 hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge 21 S and 30 degrees R

4,5 hybrids: Callaway Razr X HL 24 and 27 degrees Stiff

7-AW irons: Callaway Razr HL graphite R shafts

SW 54 Callaway X Series Jaws CC Slate Fujikura Graphite Stiff

Putter: Odessey White Ice 1 Blade Putter.

Ball...looking for any ball that hates water, sand, long grass, and getting lost in the woods.

I can't find any, so forced to use ones that seem to love all the above.

I agree with Derrick. A swing thought that might work for you, especially if you play baseball, is to try to hit the ball to the opposite field. This should help make your swing more from the inside.

While I now have some hook issues, to correct my slice, I did what Derrick told you. I guarantee you are coming over the top and outside. What are your divots like? Does the divot almost aim to the left of your target? If so you are definitely coming over the top. Another thing to add to Derrick's advice would be when placing the ball down, try to use the logo on the ball and put it to the back left of the ball. Think of a bird's eye view right over the ball. Position the ball so the logo is at about 7 o'clock. If you do that, try and hit the logo every time with the sweet spot of your club. Michael Breed recommended that once on his show and its amazing how much it helped. Probably more mental than anything but my god did that work.

Nope. The biggest factor in where the ball starts is the direction the clubface is pointing. So at the moment you've got the clubface pointing at your target or pretty straight but your path is left so the ball is curving right. So by swinging more to the right (more in to out) you'll lessen the amount of slice.

Hey Guys thanks for the help! I looked for drills on a inside to our path and it really helped... I mean I was hitting a draw I was miss hitting low stingers... First them in my life.. But of course the real test is a course and I'm playig there tommorow.. I have really good putting and chipping so if I can do what I did today :) but regardless thanks guys for giving me confidence in my self!

My golf instructor had me buy some yoga blocks ($10 Walmart).   He set them up to give me instant feed back if I swing from out to in.   The visual was a huge awaking for me.

    • They need to do something to speed  up play. They could randomly  time  players. One  idea would  be  if a group gets  out  of  position they are disqualified. If its a group of  3 and  its  1 player playing like  molasses i can imagine an exciting interaction, lol
    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
