I was going to start a thread about this, but seeing as you haven't gotten any responses in 3 1/2 years, there's probably no use.

Today I bought an oversized grip for my putter (WinnProX 1.18 with a flat side). It's not as big as the SuperStroke 5.0, but I'm hoping it will still help the part of my game that seems to be costing far too many strokes which are short putts.

@colin007, did you end up finding the grip you were looking for? Does anyone else use an oversized grip? If so, why did you switch and does it seem to help?

Hey bro, I got an Edel putter, which comes standard with a round, non-tapered grip. I like it because a flat side will tend to put your hands in a certain position, and this could be an issue if it's not absolutely perfectly aligned.

These aren't perfectly round, but they don't have the "flat spot" that most jumbo grips do:

I didn't see these when I was looking online. I'll have to see how it goes with the one I have. I can always change grips.

Never thought about the flat side being detrimental. I probably should have bought the superstroke 5.0 which I believe is perfectly round.

The main issue I have is poor mechanics, like I'm moving my wrists or something. I think the right putter might help, but I'll have to improve on those short putts before dropping $200+ dollars on a nice one.

I broke my last putter out of frustration a couple months ago (just flipped it underhand towards my golf bag and it hit the cart path). To be honest, it was a blessing. Went out and bought a $20 True-Line that I just hit better than the higher-end TM, Odyssey and Nike. Even though the new putter is a step up from what I had been using, the higher-end putters feel more solid.

Funny story... I'm at the local golf shop yesterday trying out the different putters and grips. On a couple occasions, I'd pick up a putter and the salesman would tell me which PGA pro uses that style of putter. Couldn't help but think to myself, do people really buy products based on what their favorite pro uses?

Ok. I guess I didn't notice.

After a couple of rounds using the oversized Winn grip, I have a bit more confidence on the short and mid distance putts. My lag putting hasn't changed but honestly, that seems to have much less to do with mechanics and more to do with read and speed.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
