Just had a golf lesson the other day.

Good things,

- Weight forward, hands on plane through out swing

Bad things,

- Standing too close to the ball, Ball position is a still tad back than needs to be, not bad though.

- Take the club to far inside, rotates forearms and had a wide open clubface at the top of the swing

- Grip is not uniform, i put my right hand overtop of the club to much, even if my left hand is strong. This causes me to reflexively open the clubface in the backswing

Changes

- Match the right hand to the left hand on the grip

- Incorporate a Mike Weir type of partial swing, to check the clubface in the backswing. I find it helpful to make sure the clubface stays squarer to the swing plane longer in the backswing. I did this a few times and it squared up the clubface at the top of the swing.

- Stand a bit further away from the ball

Overall the changes helped near the end of the session. It was hard to find out why i was hitting it right. I had very steep angle of attack, huge divots, and the ball had a nasty cut on it. The swing wasn't over the top to indicate a pull slice, alot of the balls would just go almost shankish. But i wasn't hitting the hosel at all. Just a wide open clubface. But at the end i was hitting things pure. I found that when i got it square at the top, the driver was being hit way lower than i am normally to. This tells me that the clubface isn't open (adding loft), and i am not releasing early into the ball (adding loft). The ball looked like it was shot out of a cannon.

Can you explain or have a clip of Mike Weir doing this?

Yep, for me, i stop the club were my hands are at about waist high, and i check the club head position and clubface angle. To make sure the clubhead isn't behind my hands, and that the clubface isn't open. Then i return to the ball, waggle a bit to reset and loosen up, then let it rip.

That's great. I'll try doing that on practice swings. I started trying to keep the club face square to the swing arc and picked up that from Jim Hardy's material. He emphasis keeping the club head "square to the arc" from at least waist high to waist high. I've tried picturing a hulla hoop as my guide. Doing this has worked nicely into the 5SKs.
