Please tell me if this is stupid or not.  I want to cut down my belly putter to around 37-38 inches.  I have a odyssey dart with a super stroke slim grip.  I was thinking of using a razor knife to remove the top 1 inch of the butt end.  Then using a fine hack saw to cut through the grip and shaft at the 37 inch mark then using the razor knife to remove another 1 inch of the existing grip and replace that with the butt end I removed earlier.  I also want to add a clevis pin inside the shaft to add counter weight.

I'm tired of my belly putter and I've heard of people doing this and want to give it a try.  I know the conventional way would be to remove grip, trim, and replace with new grip, but would like to keep my current grip to save a few bucks.  My main question is am I screwing up using a hacksaw to cut through the shaft? Thanks.

Well, I did it and love it.  Cut it down to 39" (I didnt' but golf galaxy did).  Messing around with adding weight in the butt end before I officially glue the grip back together.  Anyone who has a belly putter and doesn't use it anymore should give this a try. Feels so smooooth.

Getting the swing weight right will be the toughest challenge.  You might also take a look at the grips they use on the TM Daddy Long Legs or Odyssey Tank.

Yeah, the superstroke 21" belly grip that I cut down already weighed 145 grams.  Now, I'm messing with different size/weight clevis pins to insert in the shaft (you can buy them a lowe’s for like a $1), to achieve the best feel.
