Hi! So recently I purchased the Taylormade RBZ irons and the R1 driver all for a great price! As of now I only have technically 9 clubs in my bag 8-irons and a driver. I also have just borrowed a putter from my friend but intend to return it soon. So far I have gone Taylormade and really couldn't be happier. But the reason I'm posting this is because I'm not sure what clubs and brands I should get next. I wouldn't mind sticking with Taylormade if I can find good deals but we will see. What I was thinking so far is a 3-wood, 5-wood and maybe a four hybrid. What do you think? I also need a putter but have no clue what I want. I know you're supposed to have 14 clubs in your bag and all of those would make 13. The wedges the set came with is a pitching wedge and a 50 degree AW. Should I get another wedge? If so what kind do you recommend? I may be going tomorrow so any info ASAP is amazing! Thanks!

Well, it sounds like you could use a true sand wedge for green side bunker play. That item should go on your list. Also, if you are happy with TaylorMade, they make some very nice fairway woods and hybrids, as well as putters.

Thanks so much! I will look at wedges. Any specific brands? Like Cleveland? Also what do you recommend from their putter line? I'm sure I won't have a tough time picking out woods.

There are so many options, you really just need to go take a look and see what looks good and feels good to you. I have 2 Cleveland Wedges and love them...but it's really just personal preference. As far as putters go, it's really a personal thing. It all depends if you want a small blade type putter or a large mallet putter. Their ghost and spider line of putters have a ton of options.

Thank you. I will definitely check out the wedges they have and all of their putters. Thanks again.

And congrats on the new clubs. Enjoy. One of my regular weekly golf buddies just bought the RBZ irons. They are sharp clubs. He loves them.

You can get a matching sw off ebay. Or I'd visit an online store like golfworks and pick up something like their 1.25 UC 56* SW. I would suggest getting a 5w and a putter. Sw of course. Keep your bag to as few clubs as possible for now.

They're amazing! I was hitting them well in-store but found my self slicing them on the course a few days ago. Since then I have switched to the interlocking grip (which I have been planning to do) and am playing great so far, though I'm not getting quite as much distance I would like, but hey, there is always work to be done. While I'm at it which way Do you all prefer to clean your irons?

I will definitely consider that! Thank you.

Get a small bucket, fill with warm water and put in a few drops of Dawn dish detergent. Let the clubs soak in the bucket for a few minutes, then take them out one at a time and scrub with a good size nylon bristled brush. Dry with a soft towel cloth. There is no need to use harsh chemicals. Dawn and warm water works great.

I clean my clubs with warm water and one of those two-sided brushes (brass on one side, nylon on the other) made to carry on your golf bag.   Works great and I can be completely done in about 10 minutes, including drying them all with a microfiber towel.

Next clubs?

If you want to stick with TM, the RBZ stage 2 is on sale and you can find them almost new or slightly used at taylormadepreowned.com, or 3balls.com (sometimes).

Try the 5 wood.

Next - wedges.

Try to find something that gives you confidence - I prefer a PW w 8-10 of bounce, SW w 12-14, and a LW w. 15+, but with a leading edge that hugs the ground. It's tough to find. I think Ping has nice bounce options, and the Bridgestone J40 has variable 11-14 of bounce on the 58-60 with a nice grind.

Cleaning?

I use water and a nylon brush - on the course, range and at home. When the stainless loses its luster, you can buy a soft abrasive bar that feels like a pencil eraser, and it will takes the dullness/dirt off the stainless.

Next clubs: You'll get a putter of course, and also a sand wedge.

Long clubs: If you're sticking with TM, I would avoid original standard RBZ fairway woods if you have even moderate clubhead speed. The stock shafts are 45 grams, just too light. RBZ.Stage 2 has 60 gram shafts.

If you're had trouble with 3Ws in the past, you might go with a RBZ2 3W.HL (high launch). It is 17* rather than 15*, and gives you a little more lift. (Most companies call this a 4W, which is becoming more popular).

Lots of people go with {3W+5W or 4W+7W}, and a hybrid. When you're doing this, use the specification sheets (loft, lie and shaft length) for the different models of woods and hybrids. Loft gaps and shaft length changes are often uneven. IF at all possible, resolve the FW / hybrid puzzle with a fitting... do some outdoor testing if possible.

    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
