Bought new Ci11 irons, now need to look at wedges. Suggestions?

Hi folks,

My clubs were stolen a few months ago, and I was using a set of hand-me-downs to get me through, while I am purchasing my new clubs.

I just went and bought a set of Wilson Staff Ci11's 4-PW last night. I'm really excited for these.

They were "pre-owned" but looked as thought they had never been hit before. One thing concerned me a little bit, they have a "Half&Half;" shaft on them. This is something I really have no experience with. Any reason I should be concerned about this? They do look mean!

I spent almost 2 hours swinging 4 different sets of clubs and ultimately decided to move forward with the Wilson Staffs. The clubs felt light, but still noticeable, and on center hits were very soft. And they definitely had the forgiveness I was looking for.

Now, to the wedges. My previous set of clubs was a "beginner box" Top-Flite set, and all I had was a PW and SW. I'm about a 25handicapper, though several years ago when I played much more often I could break 90 with some regularity.

My question is, are there "beginner" or "high-handicap" wedges I should be looking at? I am on a bit of a budget, so I'm not gonna be dropping $120 bucks on Vokey's, but what should I be looking at here? I need some quality clubs that I will benefit from, but that are somewhat affordable.

I absolutely love my Ci11's, couldn't find a complaint about them if I tried. This is my second season with them, and I love them every bit as much as I did the day I got them (and I have a full set of Nike VR blades, and a set of Ping G10's in my closet in spare bags. I do love the VR blades, but am not as consistent, though I can shape shots better). I eally think you made a great choice.

As for shafts, mine are Stiff Steel shafts, custom fitted (Lie and length, i'm 6'4), and I have never used (or even heard of) these 'half and half' shafts.

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

The "half½" shafts have a graphite upper portion extending from the grip to about the halfway point of the shaft, and the bottom portion is steel. Very odd. But they felt great in my hands, and I felt like I had a much cleaner take-away, possibly due to the reduced weight of the club overall.

I'll see if I can add a picture of the shafts soon.

Edit: Apparently I can't post pics from work. They block personal storage sites. Is there a way to directly post images without having to link to an external web-address?

I've got a set I've had for about 4 months and haven't even hit them yet. Too much other stuff. I made a mistake today and hit the Cobra AMP irons and all I can say is if the Ci11 are any where close, they should be keepers.

Thanks for your responses. I have read that the Ci11's have lower loft than most irons. I'm not extremely familiar with this, but I have included the lofts below:

Lofts (degrees): 3i/20, 4i/23, 5i/26, 6i/29, 7i/32, 8i/36, 9i/40, PW/44

Ultimately I'm thinking I need  48, 52, and 56 degree wedges. Possibly a 60?

Also, I know nothing about bounce other that what I've read here. But from what I have gleaned, higher bounce is typically more desirable. Is that correct? Any figures on what bounce I should be looking at for these lofts?

I wouldn't, they suck.

I would get Edels if you can afford them and have a fitter nearby. Otherwise, the Cleveland 588's are among the best wedges I've used. Vokeys are also fantastic, but as much as I LOVE my Ci11's, the wedges made to go with the set are horrid, horrid wedges.

Wilson Staff does make some very nice looking wedges though, but I forget the model name, and have never used them.

Wedges are very personal, like putters, you need what is right for you.

Higher bounce is better in sand, or bad lies in the rough. Lower bounce is better from the fairway. At least thats what I learned from my wedge fitting.

      Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.

      Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.

      Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.

      Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?

      Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
