I have finally cracked the 80s barrier.  Last night I told my self that I was gonna get up at 5:30 a.m., get to the course super early, play from the women's tee box, and shoot a sub 80 round.  I love it when a plan works out.  I usually play the tips so playing the most forward tees was a nice treat.  Pretty much driver pitch on all the par 4's.  Was easily able to reach all the par 5's in two, and used 9 iron and pitching wedge on the par 3's.

The funny thing is that since the course rating and slope are so low I actually shot above my handicap.

Very much so.  Now I just need to crack 80 from the tips.

You must be a lot more consistent than I am.  I first broke 80 in 1989 while I was still a 16 handicap.  Then after I got down to a 10, I shot 104 in the first round of the club championship in '91.

However, I don't now, nor have I ever made a steady diet of playing the back tees (both of the above rounds were played from the 6500 yard middle tees on my home course).  It's been years since I was long enough to even consider it.

Yeah,  my home course tips aren't that impressive, about 6600 yards, but its all that I have in my area.  Its 72.1/121 from the back so when I shoot low 80s (as is the norm) my handicap benefits.  At the end of the summer I'm hitting up a course that is around 74/135 ish and plays extremely long.

Good for you.  It's fun to mix it up.  I enjoy playing from the senior tees with only a 7i.

I'm surprised those tees even had a men's rating but it's cool it did.

As far as yardage, I almost never pay attention anymore.  It's a shame that most people scoff at short yardage.  I've got a 6000yrd course that is tight and narrow, 3" rough, small greens protected by sand everywhere and not a single flat lie.  Everything is uphill/downhill/sidehill lies.  False front greens that have double breaks all over.  That course is a bitch.  You better be dialed in straight.

I've got another when I want to "pad" my index that is 7000yrds.  Its rated something like 74/130.  But it's purely flat with easy rough, hard fairways for long roll out and flat greens with minimal trouble other than some scattered traps that are easy to get out of.  I can easily score 78-80 all day long on this course but I hate to do it more than a couple of ego rounds a year because it will drop a HC index like a rock that screws you on other courses.

I have only played to my HC 2 times ever on the 6000yrd course.  The course rating is low compared to it's difficulty because it's shorter.  It keeps you humble.

But again, congrats to you and even  from the women's tees, to shoot sub 80 you still have to hit the ball straight and putt well.  Some people would much rather be 150 out than partial wedge swing.
