I love Mahan, and other than Tiger/DJ, he's one of the few guys I'd love to see win.  However, everything he did yesterday was outside of the pressure of the final few groupings.  Today will be different for him, I believe.  Drastically different.  I think Stenson and Tiger will finish 1-2, not sure which order.

I know there's a four-hole aggregate playoff in the event of a tie, but ...

Which holes?  I've searched theopen.com and other places.  I must not be picking the right keywords.  Does anyone know?

Tiger's got to show it and go low. Just don't see it happening today.

Don't know about that, unless 'go low' is post a 69 or 70. Muirfield isn't a course where you have to light it up; you just have to hang on. Faldo won the Open in 1987 with 18 pars in the final round.

Not out of it yet. But he has to do what Poulter did at the turn - string some birds together.

He has to turn it around mentally first.

Nothing a birdie wouldn't cure.

No matter how badly I'm playing, once a birdie or a tough putt goes in, everything changes mentally.

As soon as he starts missing short putts right like he did last hole, it's over for him.

You may be right. But lots of golf left.

...and just like that, a Woods birdie & Westwood bogey & he's only two back.

LOTS of golf left.

Didn't help him much.

    • My course Elizabeth Manor hosts the Eastern Amateur every year in July. The best 'kids' shoot like -8 each day from the tips, so I think US Open qualifier would end up a 2-3 shots better. Basically it would be a game of misses - birdie misses.
    • For what it's worth, I never took Bryson as a bad person. Now more so, he seems way more genuine now than he used to be. He just leaning into his personality, and I think that is a good thing because he is a very entertaining golfer. I find his YouTube channel entertaining. He just made a questionable business decision in joining LIV.  I mean, man props to Bryson here. Bryson, during the final round, between the 17th and 18th hole signed the hat of a disabled kid. He didn't have to go out of his way to do this. Same for Rory, Rory stopped on by as well to greet the kid. Mad props to Rory as well.
    • It's funny because the USGA through the FSGA definitely had a formula for what they wanted to see. They were very careful to set up a very fair test. They didn't tip it out, and they actually moved a few holes up from the black tees because they didn't like how a tree was blocking out one side of the fairway or that every par 3 was over 195. There was a mixture of easier and harder pin locations and the greens were cut to their specs.  In the end, I think they accomplished their goal of identifying the best golfers that particular day. Finally, I would highly recommend attendance at one of these events. It was very spectator friendly where you could get really close to some really good guys and see them work their way around the course. There are no ropes, its quiet, and there are no hordes of crowds to navigate. I think Charlie Woods, who had a security detail, had between 15-30 people hanging around but others like Kutchar and LeMieux, really flew under the radar.
    • I mean, everything is so complicated now with the US being in bed with the House of Saud for so long   I did enjoy his unbridled enthusiasm and the fact that he graciously chose not to criticize Rory for dipping out
    • Just curious, why don't you usually hit driver there? Downwind would typically help keep it a bit straighter, and it seems like laying back some would bring that right fairway bunker into play, right? Looks like the only penalty stroke hazard would potentially be way left, right?
