Eyad, looks like you simply need to exaggerate more.  For instance, when working on the shoulder tilt, instead of trying to achieve the proper tilt to prevent the head from moving up try and have too much tilt that would actually cause your head to move DOWN.  Try to OVERDO the changes.  If you can overdo the changes it will be easy for you to dial it back within the proper amount.  If you can't make the changes at the speed you are practicing at then you need to slow down until you can.  Shorten the swing, narrow your stance, over exaggerate.

Will do, I know that you asked me to narrow my stance in the last session, but for some reason I haven't narrowed it enough.. I am going to start keeping a small notebook with me to remind my self of things going forward so that I can't claim that I forgot anymore ;-)

Also, I will exaggerate the change as much as I can until I get it right, and then like you mentioned dial it back.

QFT.

You can't fix your swing on the golf course or at full speed.

+1 Thanks for the reminder..  I think my last range session was about 50% slow and 50% full speed ( I bucket is like 40 balls) next time on the range I'll make that 75/25.. All of my work at home with the mirror has been slow, but I haven't exaggerated the motion as Stephan mentioned I should..

I think also from my stand point I always have the expectation that I should be able to change the picture immediately for some reason.  Maybe it is because of how fast I have been able to change the picture from the first time I posted on this site, although I should know by now that the rate of change as the picture gets better decreases and thus change will start taking longer periods of time.. I just like to post and take videos in short intervals of time so that one day I can put it all together and show how my swing really evolved and hopefully my scores as well!

Thanks...  I have pretty much don't really think about anything in my swing other than my priority piece.. I don't have time to think about it really, because getting my piece down is tough at the moment.

Didn't work on my swing today, just hit a few balls at the range and then hit the links.. Contact was pretty good for the most part; I didn't keep track really, but of all the holes I played (some with 3 or 4 balls) I only had 2 double bogies and 1 bogy and the rest were pars with a few birdies in there.

I'll just keep doing my slow mirror work, and keep trying to get that damn shoulder down enough long enough :) !

I think I finally understand what I need to do..

I am not sure if it is correct, so maybe @sk golf can advise me on it.  Basically I'm just feeling my left knee coming down as I make my shoulder turn..  At least I was able to get into the position I think Stephan wants to get me into at A4.

I want to take this to the range tomorrow and see if I'm able to replicate after working in as many slow reps as possible.

Looking good

Thank you for taking the time to take a look.. I really appreciate it!  I took your advice in over exaggerating by consciously bringing my knee down and in.  I think over time it will go down the right amount, I think it just needs this time to start feeling like a natural move to me that's all.  Thanks again!

Played 6 holes today with 2 balls each.

Had some great contact, and ball flight was ok as well.. it seems like I have lost my draw ball flight, and now I'm more of a slight pull fade guy.. which is ok for now untill I work through my priorities.

My short game has been on fire, just can't really do much wrong there, and my putting has also been on as well so nothing to do there.

My Driver and 3W are worthless now, so I need to really start working on those a lot more than my irons.. I know everyone says that it is the same swing as the iron, but it just doesn't feel that way!

I just tried so hard for a few hours to get my head piece working, and I just want to proclaim now, loud and clear so that there is no misunderstanding.

I CAN'T DO IT

I DON'T GET IT

no matter what I do.. even half swings I just can't stop my shoulders from flattening out at A3.75 to A4 right at the point of transition basically from the backswing to the downswing..

uhhhgg frustrated

I'll be back next week.

Bull.

You did it in the video without a club in your hands, right?

Why you continue to PLAY when you need to be PRACTICING is beyond me. Gonna start calling you Kyle.

It is easy to get into a static position with or without a club for me. It is that transition point in time that for some odd reason my shoulders flatten out for that instant that I can't get rid of.  Granted my practice has not been on the range, but it is at home and it is everyday so that should count in my opinion.

If voicing my frustration is an issue then I won't do it anymore.  That is why I said I'll be back next week, I hope by that time I have put in enough work to nail down my piece.

The difference between Kyle and myself is that he set a timeline to get to a certain playing level and I haven't (He also started an eye catching thread about it)!

FWIW I do think you are being harsh with me and I'm not sure why.. all you have to do is take a look at some of the first swings that I have posted and out of everyone I think that you would appreciate how much PRACTICE I have had to put in to change the picture to what it is now (even if it is not up to your high standards).

That's cold.  Ice cold.

First thought that came to my mind.. Although, I would like to think it's more like tough tough love, because I would like to think that Erik cares.

Eh, more like good advice

If he can do it without a club he can do it with a club.

Ya true, and I agree with you.. You guys know how hard it is to change the picture no matter how much work is put in, and trying to make changes with just video lessons.. well, it just gets that much harder! -

Basically it's like here is some advice and I'll slap you in the face while I'm at it too for good measure.

Went out to Dirab Golf Course http://www.dirabgolf.com/ this morning.

Before I mention any details I want to say that I was happy with some parts of my game and not others.  It really highlighted for me where I really need to work the most, and I'll discuss it with Stephan even though I know he already has a plan for me.

I had 1 (+4) (Par 3 with OB protecting the green all around except the front of it.  I hit 2 OB +4 right there)

I had 2 (+3) (Par 3 with OB protecting the green all around and water in front.  I hit 1 OB +2 right there)

Obviously had very bad iron shots on those that pushed right into OB, so I'll need to just pay attention next time.

I had 8 GIRs and I hit par on 7 of them

I think I had something like 5 or 6 double bogies and the root cause was having to hit back from the woods into the fairway (3W or Driver)

I ended up with a 98 so obviously I'm not very happy about it, but I think hitting 8 GIRs in a round and being able to par 7 of them should give me some confidence that I am improving.

If I can just reign in that Driver and 3 Wood and get a consistent ball flight that I can depend on I see some big room for improvement.

Note:  I didn't achieve my target of hitting sub 90 in my next round.. However, that is still the goal for the next time I play this course!  I look forward to the challenge!

Sounds good man. Hitting 8 GIR is a very good achievement and as you say definitely a sign of improvement. I'm sure as you ingrain the changes going on in your swing those erratic shots will become less and less frequent. :-D

I really hope so.. I didn't realize I had 8 GIR until after the round was over and I counted them..

I also feel like this is a tough course.. Everything is pretty much dog right / dog left with OB on either side or both.. Never mind the 2 par 3's with OB basically protecting from all sides..

Par 5's I would say almost impossible for anyone to get on in 2 IMO..

The course gives you nothing, and maybe it is good I get used to this so that when I play easier courses I manage them better!

Thanks for your support!

Maybe on the tight holes hit 4 irons of the tee and keep it in play?

I think you are right that for now I should think creatively of how I should keep things in the fairway.. At least while I continue to refine my game.

I played my home executive course today and shot a +1 with 1 Birdi, 2 Bogies, 6 Pars (one of the bogies was a 1 foot putt that just veered off at the last second.. blaming the green on that one)

The biggest developement really is the fact that my ball flight now with all my irons is a consistent very very slight pull fade that almost looks like it is going straight most of the time.

I'm going to have to work closely with my instructor to find out if I should or want to continue with this ball flight or if it is worth going ahead and working on changing it into a push draw instead.. In the end all I care about is having a consistent ball flight, and making sure that my cone zone is as small as possible!

  • 2 weeks later...

(All info below is for 9 holes at the executive course I play.. 3 par 3's, 1 par 5, 5 par 4's

I have been tracking my progress for the past 9 rounds, the only stat I haven't been tracking is FIR.. (not sure why, but maybe at some point I will)..

The most important stats I am looking at are really..

I am hitting GIR 52% of the time, and when I hit a GIR I get

I am currently only completing 36% of my U&D; (I am considering any time I do not get a GIR as an U&D; opportunity).. Basically that = if I don't get a GIR I only achieve

88% of the time I am finishing the hole with 1 or 2 putts.. I 3 putt 12% of the time.. (this needs to be much lower in my opinion)

I currently average 1.59 putts per hole.

Over the same time period below are my percentage scores (I have averaged 4.5 strokes over par (per 9 holes))  with 2,2,5,9,6,8,5,1,3 respectively.

Birdies 9.9%
Pars 48.1%
Bogys 27.2%
Double Bogys 11.1%
Triple Bogys 3.7%

Today when I played I was +5 after 5 (2 doubles), and then I was able to rally back and hit back to back birdie's and par the last 2 holes!

I recorded a video from today.. right after the round.. just one ball :)

I think I regressed slightly with the takeaway as there is a very funny motion in there from like A2.5 - A.3.7 or something and then I'm back to my normal position at A4

I like my inline impact a lot more and I think my weight forward is good.. The ball I hit here was a perfect baby draw even though the contact was probably slightly fat for my liking.. this 8i still went about 150 yards though which is pretty much my normal 8i..

I need to practice a little more and then I'll take a vid again to upload to Stephan so that I can move forward with him.. I think I can do better than the above!
