So my wife and I live in TN currently.  We always vacation to the coast (as so many do) and we absolutely LOVE IT!!!  She is currently in nursing school working towards her RN.  With this title, she can pretty much go anywhere she wants as nurses are pretty much in demand everywhere.  I have recently found out that I can make more money within my company outside of our "held back by management" state.  So the topic has come up about us moving to the coast.  I have some friends in the Myrtle Beach, SC area as well as in the Destin/Pensacola, FL area. One of the biggest things I am afraid of is the tourist industry in these areas from a locals point of view.  Is it worth the hassle dealing with tourists to be able to live in these areas?  I'm thinking maybe looking a few minutes outside of these for cheaper prices and less invasion during peak seasons.

Guys that live in these areas, what are the pros and cons?  People that have moved to these areas with families, do you regret it in any way?  I will have a son that will be starting high school around this time (if it happens then) and he loves golf.  I would like for him to be in a good spot to receive a college scholarship....would these areas hinder that because of the competition level?  How does the cost of living vary?  My friend in Destin told me that you can live in that area for 50k a year (just outside of Destin obviously).  I have talked with my SC friend just yet, but he did say that houses on the beach were extremely low priced compared to what they had been (this was a year or so ago).  It will likely be another 1.5 years before we are able to do anything, but it is something that I want to go ahead and start looking into well before hand.

Anyway, just looking for some opinions.  Nothing is set in stone yet, but I would like to have some idea as to what route we want to take.  We are about to put our house up for sale (this is happening regardless of the moving to the coast) and it may affect the route we take the next year or so.
