My wife and I played in a couple's (two-person) scramble recently. We were less than perfect on several approaches and had three bunker shots, and one approach from a very steep hillside.

She's only 4-foot-10, and had trouble getting into the two deeper bunkers. There's no flat edge where you could just walk in.  I had to hold her arm  as she lowered herself into the sand. I had trouble climbing out of one, and slipped off the hill back into the sand. On the hillside shot, she couldn't steady herself enough on the wet grass to hit it; my shot was the only one going into the green..

Does anyone else have trouble with steep bunker banks? (It's a Nicklaus course, so I guess this should be expected.)

Focus, connect and follow through!

Yes.  Fossil Trace in Golden Colorado has bunkers which are quite difficult to get in and out of.  Steep sides and deep, soft sand makes it very hard at times.
