Regripping cost

How much is it to regrip an iron set? I'm looking to buy some used clubs but the grips are pretty beat up. The clubs are cheap because they look bad, but i'm pretty sure with a good cleaning and regrip they'll look good as new.

I paid $5 per grip for one of the better grips.

With the cost of the grip and regripping, it could run anywhere from $5 to $10 per iron, unless you want to get into really high-end grips (which I think most find unnecessary).

Most will charge whatever they charge for the grip. Do it yourself. It's a piece of cake. All you need is a razor knife, lighter fluid (not much) and 2 sided masking tape.

I respect your thought process about buying a used set. I have no problem with buying used, but factor in these post-purchase "mandatory costs":

Figure around $4.00 per grip (using Golf Pride Tour Velvets as a general rule/price) and $1.00 per club for loft and lie check (check only). Loft and lie ADJUSTMENT is around $4.00 a club (meaning, if that 4-iron is abnormally 2-degrees upright that means the clubmaker will charge you $4.00 to bend it back to standard/your specs instead of $1.00).

You like those grips? Buying a set of MP-32s at a bargain price for $200 from some booger-picking scratch golfer that has warts all over his hands? Nice standard grips, sure, but he also liked three layers of tape underneath those "plenty of life left in them" grips?

And his playing partner once ran over that 9-iron in the set -- right over the hosel -- with the cart?

Factor in the costs of getting them checked out by a clubmaker. I guess that's what I'm saying. :)

I also vote for doing it yourself. I had my first clubs regripped by a shop and they charged $2 per club for installation plus the cost of the grip. I got them back and they looked like crap, there was solvent all over the grips, they didn't clean em and they weren't even centered. It was terrible. I told myself never again will I get my clubs regripped by another person...so I did some research and did it myself.

I was quite surprised on how easy it really was. If you have the right supplies/tools, regripping is a great way to personalize your own clubs and get some self satisfaction that you did it yourself.

I had 10 irons regripped with Golf Pride Tour Velvets for 50 bucks including installation.
