Hi everybody I hope everyone is having a good week so far.  As the title suggests I'm in the process of starting a club golf team at my college and could use some advice.  I attend a small liberal arts school in Ohio that has a collegiate golf team already.  The problem that me and fellow golf fans is that many of us aren't good enough to make the team.  We still want to have an organized group on campus that is recognized and has a charter with the school.

The issue that I'm running into is finding reasons to separate that a club golf team is different than a collegiate golf team.  Some ideas are that club team is open to beginners and advanced players.  Also that my college is small and many of us are involved with varsity sports (football, baseball etc) academics and Greek life. and playing on a varsity sport would take too much time.  There would be no cuts and everyone is encouraged to play.

What do you guys think?  Do I have a valid argument to prove my club is worth receiving a charter and funding?

Does the school fund intramural sports or other club teams where there is already a varsity team?

There was an attempt for a club soccer team to receive funding but that was denied.  I would like to think that golf is significantly different than golf and should be evaluated accordingly.  However there are club sports that receive money from the school such as club hockey team, Ultimate Frisbee team and yes the Quidditch team.

I don't see why not. I go to a big public school and they'll throw money at just about any sort of club if you get enough people. I'm sure it's somewhat different at a smaller private school, but get enough people and for something like a golf club you probably have a good shot.

That's my thinking.  We honestly just need money for green fees.  The rest will be out of pocket type things such as balls, tees and other golf necessities.
