Many years ago I used tubes in my bag to keep the clubs better organized. Then for some reason I stopped. I have put new grips on my clubs that are nice an grippy, but it also makes them more difficult to get in and out of the bag. I am getting concerned about premature damage to the edges of the grips. Is there a downside to using plastic tubes? Will they cause wear on graphite shafts? Are there some with softer edges to avoid this? Is there a better alternative short of a new bag with built in dividers?
Thanks,
Raymond

I have a Titleist stand bag that works really well with corded grips, and Ogio has that Woode thingy that works really well too. Both protect graphite shafts just fine.

Tubes are so early 90s.

Thanks, Eric. The thing is, I like my old bag. It is still in great condition and I just like how it looks. I read your review on the Ogio, and that organizer system sounds pretty good. Are things like that available as inserts to retro fit other bags?

I too read the review and the Ogio Exo will be my next bag. I was looking for a new bag and doing some research and came across this site where I found the review. Excellent review.

I'm using an old PING stand bag I got in high school when I was hitting PING irons. Now the only PING club in my bag is my putter. It gets a little annoying when people keep commenting: "A PING bag and Tommy Armour Irons, what's up with that?" I'm really tired of hitting them in the face with my putter. j/k I know what he means on the grips catching on each other, it gets annoying after a while. Edit: I clicked a few of the links that Rafcin posted and came across THIS(clickme) . I think I would get beat up if I ever wore that out on the course.

Thanks for the links, guys. May I ask what you searched on to come up with those? I Googled all kinds of combinations of golf, club, organizer, insert, etc., and only got back mainly to Ogio bags!

I would suggest just getting a new bag or not worrying about the tubes. The only good thing about those (as I remember them) swinging them at my brother when we were kids.

The tubes will damage graphite shafts,, after I finally switched to graphite driver and woods, (only three years ago) I used a piece of clear packing tape on my graphite shafts to protect them until I bought a new bag.

Wow, that shoe thing is just amazing. I've never used the tubes but it seems as if they wouldn't work out for me when I get pissed. I would have to slam the club down on the ground, then regain my composure, find the right tube for that club, and then finally slam it into the bag really really hard. Too much work.

RAY- TUBES ARE WORTHLESS. THEY DAMAGE GRAPHITE SHAFTS AND WEAR OUT GRIPS PREMATURELY. THEY USED TO MAKE 2 SIZES - STANDARD AND EXTRA WIDE. SOME PEOPLE HAVE ARGUED THAT CLUBS IN BAGS WITHOUT TUBES CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRAILING EDGE AND BACKS OF GOLF CLUBS, BUT I FEEL, AFTER 33 YEARS AS A GOLF PROFESSIONAL, THAT A PLAYER DOES LESS DAMAGE TO THE CLUBS IN BAGS WITHOUT TUBES. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, SEND ME AN EMAIL @PRESCOTTGOLF528@CS.COM. I HOPE THAT I HAVE GIVEN YOU SOME USEFUL INFO. ALAN
Thanks again. That's what I was concerned about - the swinging motion of the shaft against the lip of the tube wearing a spot on the shaft.
