You can probably get to Orlando, FL easily from anywhere in EU.  A resort the wife and I have stayed at a few times is right in the middle of everything is Villas at Grand Cypress.  Right in the middle of the entire Disney area, but because its a golf resort, it seems completely isolated from the tourist attractions.  You are still close enough to see the fireworks/laser light shows each night at Disney Epcot Center from the patio of your villa.

Golf:  This is a 45-hole Nicklaus design facility.  It's also a teaching academy.  You have full use of all practice facilities, free balls all day and night long.  It has about a dozen practice putting greens as well.  It's a great place to relax (not a lot of kids running about) practice your golf game and play on 3 Jack Nicklaus Design courses.

The Pinehurst/Sandhills area of North Carolina should be on your list of areas to check out - Pinehurst resort is great, though expensive - there are many other courses to play in the nearby area.

Just over an hour to get there from the Raleigh NC airport.

Players play, tough players win!

Bandon, hands down. It's a trek to get there, but its some of the most beautiful land in the country.

Not to mention the only place you can play 4 Top 100 Courses in the US on one property.
