Any British or American fans heading to this? I have just ordered my tickets and can't wait, especially as we have 2 Northern Irish players on the team, Rory McIlroy (Silver Medal winner at The Open) and my old friend and team mate Jonathon Caldwell.

Played over Royal County Down, regularly named as one of the best courses in the wild, and perhaps the most ruggedly beautiful, it should be a great weekend, and a great event for Northern Ireland to host!

I'm just hope we get some TV coverage in USA.

I really enjoy the Walker Cup - but it doesn't seem to actually get much buzz in the golf mainstream in USA. One reason I think is that it always comes at a busy time of the year. The FedEx, Solheim and President's Cup all going on in September.

We are sending a strong group to Royal County Down - potentially a great team. Colt Knost, Jamie Lovemark, Trip Kuehne will be a match for anyone. The leadership of Buddy Marucci is as good as it gets.

Of course all eyes on Rory McIIroy for GB&I.; It will be good golf - lucky is anyone who can be there to watch it!

Have fun.

After watching the US Amateur last weekend I think its BS that Michael Thompson didn't get picked for the team. I don't know much about the other two kids that were picked, but I thought Thompson deserved a spot.

I'm not sure how long Michael Thompson was actually on the radar screen prior to the US Open but the last two picks, Fowler and Stanley have had good numbers all summer. The process is very closed door. I was equally surprised that the Virginia Tech player, Drew Weaver wasn't selected. (I think he is an alternate) He only won the British Amateur! Tough team to make wouldn't you say? A big question on Kuehne but I think he brings experience (he might be the only player with Walker Cup experience?) to the team. My pick for the MVP of the team is Jamie Lovemark - hands down.

iT will be a good couple days of golf for sure. Let's hope we get some same day coverage in USA.

I'm so very proud to say that my nephew, David Horsey is on the GB&I; team.....
I've been attempting to find out what the tv coverage is myself. I'm not 100% sure but believe that the Golf Channel are covering a couple of hours on Sunday and ABC Sports say they are too! Please check though to be on the safe side!
If anyone should hear something more concrete, I would appreciate an update!
Many thanks!
Sue (Atlanta)
The Walker Cup website shows the Golf Channel coverage as;

Saturday: 11:00am - 1:00pm EDT
Sunday 4:00pm - 6:00pm EDT

I remember ESPN covering this is recent past - so watch that listing as well.

What a great example of the manner in which golf should be played!! A very enjoyable couple of days and props to the bbc who showed most of it live on tv!!

Well done to the Americans for the win and to GB&I; for the fightback on Sunday afternoon!!

Hi, I'm new.

I was at the Walker cup for the Saturday play. I'd just like to say that the Royal County Down course is by far the most beautifully manicured course I've ever seen. Oh yeah, and the golf wasn't too shabby either.

Its a pity thet we couldn't win , but fair play the the American team, you played some fantastic golf, really great.

Here in the States, we had 2 hours of coverage from the whole weekend on ABC yesterday afternoon. I tivo'd it, but I haven't watched it yet - my TV was tuned to Football all day yesterday.

how long before the R&A; recognise our courses for the gems that they are and reward us with an Open Championship? Both Royal County Down and Royal Portrush are well worthy of an Open and certainly better courses than whats on the current roster!

Royal County Down looks an absolute beast of a course. If I had a spare mortgage lying about, I'd be up there like a shot. Actually, they probably check handicaps and all that and would laugh in my face.

But yeah, what a course. In the words of a rather famous golf comentator, the area was "crafted by the Almighty for playing golf."

Was there on the Saturday (kinda glad i missed the drubbing we were given on Sun morning!) - was more impressed with the Americans overall I must say, but it'll be interesting to see how these guys fare in years to come. 5 of the GB&I; team are turning pro this week!

yes Sue! i followed David for a few holes - very impressive - hope he goes on to great things!

McIlroy and Saltman are going well in Q-School to qualify for European Tour after 3 round (out of 4) so hopefully they'll progress!

    • Going to a Friendsgiving tomorrow and I am bringing a no-bake cheesecake. I make the crust too big, but I think it turned out good. The filling is really good.
    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
